About the Position

Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 is seeking to employ a High School Principal to serve as the instructional and organizational leader of Edwardsville High School. The High School Principal is responsible for the overall management, operation, and continuous improvement of the school, providing leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, student achievement, personnel supervision, school safety, budgeting, and community engagement.

Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the High School Principal collaborates with the district leadership team to advance the mission of Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7: "Empowering each student to achieve personal success."
Salary Range

The starting salary range for this 12-month position is $130,000, based on experience.
Qualifications

Required
  • Master's degree in educational leadership, administration, or related field
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative endorsement, or eligibility to obtain one
  • ISBE Type 75 General Administrative Certificate
  • Prior experience in high school administration (assistant principal or principal)
  • Demonstrated instructional leadership skills and a strong understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Knowledge of Illinois School Code, special education law, and other applicable state and federal regulations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing budgets, personnel, and building operations
  • Experience with data-driven decision-making and school improvement planning
  • Demonstrated success building positive relationships with staff, students, families, and community members
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership
  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's instructional program in alignment with district curriculum standards and goals
  • Monitors student achievement data and works with staff to identify areas of growth and implement targeted interventions
  • Supports teachers through classroom observation, instructional coaching, and professional development planning
  • Fosters a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement, and equity in student outcomes
  • Oversees the development of the master schedule

Staff Supervision and Development
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates teachers, support staff, and building administrators in accordance with district policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements
  • Conducts formal and informal evaluations of certified and classified staff and provides timely, constructive feedback
  • Builds and sustains a positive, collaborative school culture that supports staff retention and growth
  • Facilitates department chair and building leadership team meetings to guide instructional and operational decisions

Student Support and School Culture
  • Oversees student discipline in accordance with the district's student handbook and Board policy, applying consistent and fair practices
  • Promotes a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment for all students
  • Works with counselors, social workers, and support staff to address students' academic, social, and emotional needs
  • Oversees student activities, athletics, and extracurricular programs in coordination with the athletic director and activity sponsors

Operations and Safety
  • Manages daily building operations, including scheduling, facilities use, and building budgets
  • Maintains a safe building environment through effective implementation of safety drills, emergency protocols, and district crisis plans
  • Oversees compliance with state and federal regulations, including those related to special education, Section 504, and student records
  • Supervises building-level use of technology and resources in support of instruction and operations

Family and Community Engagement
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for parents, guardians, and community members regarding school matters
  • Communicates regularly with families about school events, expectations, and student progress
  • Represents the school at district and community events and builds positive relationships with community stakeholders
  • Partners with booster organizations and other community groups in support of the school

District Leadership and Collaboration
  • Serves as a member of the district's administrative leadership team, contributing to district-wide planning and decision-making
  • Implements Board policy and district initiatives at the building level
  • Collaborates with fellow principals and central office administrators to ensure consistency and alignment across the district
  • Communicates building needs, concerns, and successes to the Superintendent in a timely manner
  • Participates in professional growth through membership and participation in professional organizations and/or conferences
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
