Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a physician scientist who is Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Infectious Disease to join the expanding division. The ideal candidate will display a successful background in academic medicine with a successful research portfolio. The opportunity may entail inpatient and outpatient activities, teaching and research opportunities.

The Division of Infectious Diseases has a longstanding, internationally renowned record in the study of herpesvirus Infections, including the molecular biology, diagnosis, epidemiology, and treatment. Additional research conducted by division scientists include the development and evaluation of genetically engineered herpes simplex virus for the treatment of brain tumors, and a robust drug discovery program in partnership with Southern Research. The Division leads the Department of Pediatrics in funding of both clinical and basic research activities. Its 18 faculty members are conducting numerous NIH and industry sponsored studies in all areas of infectious disease. The division leads four national and international networks of clinical collaborators on the bench-to-bedside-to-bench research conducted by its faculty members.

The UAB Department of Pediatrics has nationally recognized expertise and firmly established multidisciplinary programs. This position will provide opportunities for growth of divisional programs, as well as opportunities for collaborations with other distinguished programs within UAB.

The ideal candidate will qualify for an appointment at the Associate or Professor level within UAB and will be an MD, or MD/PhD who is licensed or eligible for a medical license in the state of Alabama. Opportunities for administrative leadership roles may be available for qualified candidates. Salary, rank and tenure status are negotiable based on experience and current academic achievements.
