Salary Range:$82,407.00 - $82,407.00

Works under the general direction of the Heavy Equipment Manager. Directs and coordinates work of subordinate personnel responsible for the maintenance and operation of all types of heavy equipment used in various City maintenance projects such as street sweeping operations or emergency response situations. Reviews and prioritizes work requests received from various City departments, determines equipment and manpower needed, schedules work crews, and coordinates work activities. Inspects work sites throughout the City to ensure government regulations are adhered to in applicable situations such as in disposal of hazardous materials. Monitors daily expenditures. Maintains daily logs and prepares reports for supervisor. Evaluates worker performance and recommends personnel actions. Processes or resolves employee grievances according to union contract procedures. Supervises assigned clerical personnel in payroll, bookkeeping, recordkeeping, and dispatching activities. Monitors equipment and schedules repairs and preventive maintenance to maintain assigned equipment in good operating condition.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with management and staff members at all levels. Must have understanding of the operation of various types of heavy equipment including street sweeper, backhoes, and loaders. Must be able to reach overhead and lift and carry objects and related equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. for long distances. Must be able to stoop, bend, and traverse uneven surfaces such as across ditches and riverbanks. Must be able to operate an automobile to inspect work areas.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an office environment as well as outside with exposure to various weather conditions to inspect work activities and to respond to problem situations and emergencies. Must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Must be able to be on-call twenty four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week for emergency responses.

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent and seven (7) years' experience in Public Works Maintenance, Heavy Construction, or a closely related area with at least one (1) of the seven (7) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules.
