Miller Johnson is seeking an experienced Healthcare Licensing & Regulatory Attorney to join our Litigation Practice Group in Detroit. This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior attorney who enjoys navigating the intersection of healthcare regulation, administrative advocacy, and litigation while serving as a trusted advisor to healthcare providers and organizations.

The ideal candidate is a strategic advisor and strong advocate who thrives at the intersection of healthcare regulation, administrative advocacy, and litigation. They will represent healthcare clients in sophisticated regulatory and licensing matters, take ownership of complex work, strengthen client relationships, and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of the firm's litigation practice.

As a Senior Associate within our Litigation Practice Group, you will:

  • Represent healthcare professionals and organizations in licensing investigations, disciplinary proceedings, administrative hearings, and related appeals
  • Advise hospitals, health systems, physician groups, long term care providers, and other healthcare entities regarding licensure, accreditation, and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Counsel clients regarding healthcare laws and regulations, including matters involving HIPAA, HITECH, EMTALA, provider enrollment, and other healthcare compliance obligations.
  • Assist clients in responding to governmental inquiries, audits, and investigations involving state and federal agencies.
  • Develop and execute defense strategies tailored to the unique circumstances of each matter.
  • Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, position statements, and other advocacy materials, and appear before administrative agencies, licensing boards, and courts as appropriate.
  • Advise clients regarding privacy, security, and breach notification requirements, including risk mitigation and response strategies.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across practices to provide comprehensive and practical solutions to healthcare clients.
  • Build and strengthen client relationships through exceptional service and responsiveness.
  • Participate in business development activities, presentations, and community engagement efforts.
  • Support and mentor junior attorneys while contributing to a culture of learning and collaboration.

  • Strong litigation, advocacy, negotiation, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
  • Experience responding to governmental investigations, audits, and enforcement actions preferred.
  • Familiarity with healthcare privacy and security requirements, including HIPAA and HITECH, preferred.
  • Experience advising healthcare providers on compliance and risk mitigation strategies preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters independently while balancing competing priorities.
  • Strong relationship building skills and a collaborative approach to practice.
  • Interest in business development and contributing to the continued growth of the healthcare practice.
