About the Role

The Health, Safety, and Ergonomics Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all health, safety, and environmental programs across the facility. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role is crucial in developing, implementing, and continuously improving systems that promote a safe and compliant workplace. The position contributes to fostering a proactive safety culture that supports operational excellence and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) management system.
  • Promote a culture where safety is integrated into every aspect of the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ADA, fire codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on occupational health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing workplace injuries and operational risks.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain safety records and establish measurable safety objectives and KPIs.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Administer the Workers' Compensation program and analyze injury trends.
  • Develop and deliver health, safety, environmental, and emergency response training programs.
  • Promote environmentally responsible work practices and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Serve as a key member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Build strong relationships across all levels of the organization and identify professional development opportunities.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience managing Health, Safety, and Environmental programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting automotive manufacturing, injection molding, paint operations, or similar industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, industrial ergonomics, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence safety culture.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience using safety management software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Professional safety certifications or advanced safety training (CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, OSHA certifications, or equivalent).

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequent walking throughout manufacturing and warehouse environments, including climbing stairs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds and frequently lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach above shoulder level, and work below knee level as needed.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to paints, solvents, chemicals, plastics, dust, and industrial equipment while using appropriate PPE.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and maintain close visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to hear alarms, warning signals, and verbal communications, with or without hearing assistance.
