Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
Position Overview:
The Advisor, Health & Safety is responsible for partnering with Divisional operations and Safety Teammates to foster and support an effective and proactive safety culture of internal responsibility. This role will focus on incident prevention, regulatory compliance, and accountability for employee health and safety at all levels.
Key Functions & Duties:
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Support operations in maintaining current safety compliance - includes providing training, updating of safety documentation and policies
- Identify potential workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices, and working conditions, and mitigate hazardous conditions through client job site inspections, workplace inspections, referring to policies & procedures, and employee interviews
- Assist with incident and accident investigations to identify root causes, trends, and prevention
- Provide advice and counsel to divisional management and other employee groups on various occupational safety issues and decisions
- Assist divisional management team with review of project plans and safety documentation
- Support the Project Estimation group with safety documentation for bid submittals
- Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for supervisors and field employees, such as New-hire orientations, WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry-specific related issues, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date training records for employees
- Participate in compiling, maintaining, and report on metrics and KPIs
- Participate in the ongoing support and training of divisional groups, development of the Safety program, and internal and external audits
- Awareness of and participation in WSIB claims management
- Recommend program initiatives that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries
- Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee program activities with training, employee communications, workplace inspections, and monthly meetings
Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
- Post-secondary education related to health and safety or equivalent experience
- Valid CRSP designation or working towards
- Valid JHSC level 1 & 2 certification considered an asset
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role
- Ability to facilitate and influence behavioral change in the workplace regarding safety.
- Demonstrates the capacity to work in a team
- Effective time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills, including effectively transferring knowledge to a diverse group of learners in formal and informal settings.
- This position will require approximately 50% travel time being on job sites or attending off-site meetings.

- Travel to various YORK1 sites as required
