Full Job Description
What You Will Be Doing:

We are looking for a Health Physicist to join our Radiation Safety team to work with radiation, radioactive materials, radiation survey equipment, and team members with varying levels of technical familiarity with these subjects, as we operate Polaris and build future fusion generators. This position is ideal for an experienced professional eager to make a significant impact on radiation safety practices at Helion.

As a member of the radiation safety contingent of the Science team, which includes radiation safety, fuel cycle, plasma and nuclear science, and materials contingents, you will work closely with diverse teams across Helion, such as Research & Development, Engineering, Production, EH&S, Facilities, and more. You will report to our RSO at our Everett, WA office.

You Will:
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design, establish, implement, and execute a comprehensive radiation safety program supporting safe, compliant, and effective radiological operations
  • Develop and optimize protocols for handling radioactive materials and radiological hazards, including photons, neutrons, tritium, and activated materials
  • Communicate radiation safety principles and health effects effectively to team members with varying levels of expertise
  • Operate survey equipment including liquid scintillation counters, NaI detectors, HPGe detectors, Geiger counters, and ion chambers
  • Perform and improve critical health physics functions, including dosimetry, leak tests, wipe tests, radiation surveys, environmental monitoring, and radiological procedure development
  • Lead and mentor junior team members and partner teams, driving strategic initiatives and contributing to innovative safety methodologies tailored to fusion technology by ensuring cohesive execution across functions

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiological Sciences, Physics, or a related technical field is preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in radiation safety, with demonstrated leadership in designing and owning complex radiation safety programs or objectives. Advanced qualifications or certifications such as CHP (Certified Health Physicist) are highly preferred for senior candidates
  • Ability to communicate complex radiological concepts effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of radiation protection principles, dosimetry, contamination control, and regulatory compliance frameworks
  • Experience developing, implementing, or improving radiation safety programs, procedures, or operational controls
  • Hands-on experience working with radioactive materials, radiation detection instrumentation, and radiological survey techniques
  • Strong understanding of radiation protection principles, dosimetry, contamination control, and regulatory compliance frameworks
