Full Job Description
We are seeking a Health Informatics Manager to serve as a key member of Optum Advisory Services- Provider Technology Consulting team. In this role, you will be the primary project lead for implementing and optimizing clinical solutions. This role leads complex, concurrent initiatives, identifies workflow efficiencies, supports clinical governance, mentors team members, and partners with leadership to keep scope, timelines, resources, and outcomes aligned. Managers apply core project management principles while delivering exemplary client service that reinforces Optum's position as a center of excellence for technology consulting and EHR services.

Our practice continues to grow our comprehensive health informatics services capability using the collective expertise of our clinical, consulting, delivery, technology, and operations teams. The Health Informatics team assists our clients both internal and external in their efforts to solve challenging issues while delivering excellent results. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead implementation and optimization of clinical, EHR-integrated, and AI-enabled solutions, applying health informatics principles, clinical strategy, workflow redesign, governance input, provider training considerations, and adoption planning
  • Develop and manage project plans, including scope, schedules, dependencies, resource assignments, staffing recommendations, risks, issues, milestones, and measurable outcomes
  • Coordinate across clients, vendors, external partners, Optum teams, and executive sponsors to align expectations, facilitate communication, build consensus, and maintain solid stakeholder relationships from discovery through implementation
  • Use data, industry trends, best practices, and clinician feedback to identify workflow and technology improvement opportunities, strengthen consulting methodologies, and address health IT adoption challenges
  • Evaluate EHR-native, enterprise, ambient, and agentic AI capabilities; apply structured prioritization frameworks to define high-impact use cases, business cases, roadmaps, implementation specifications, gap analyses, success measures, and ROI expectations
  • Document current-state clinical, revenue cycle, and administrative workflows and design future-state, AI-enabled workflows with human oversight, responsible AI practices, governance, compliance, and risk standards built in
  • Partner with clinical, technical, operational, training, governance, and compliance teams to enhance products and services, develop evidence-based standards, create education materials, and implement service delivery models
  • Serve as a credible client-facing advisor by leading working sessions, discovery interviews, executive readouts, and written and verbal communications with clinical, IT, operational, and business stakeholders
  • Mentor informatics team members, diagnose stated and underlying client issues, recommend appropriate solutions, develop action plans when performance is off target, and drive continuous improvement and operating efficiencies
  • Design, develop and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with emphasis on responsible use of AI
  • Evaluate emerging trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation
  • Partner with governance and compliance teams to ensure AI-enabled workflows meet responsible AI and risk standards
  • Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, support responsible innovation, and inform solution design based on emerging trends

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant informatics experience utilizing data to drive outcomes, improve experience, and efficiencies
  • 2+ years of experience working with EHRs and clinical solutions (e.g., Epic, or Oracle Health) to drive outcomes and optimization and optimization projects
  • 1+ years of experience as a team lead or people management experience
  • Experience in a fast-paced, agile environment managing multiple concurrent projects, with solid communication and relationship management skills across administrative through executive levels
  • Experience working with fully remote project teams and leading projects to successful completion
  • Proficiency in Smartsheet, Visio, Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar tools for managing projects and deliverables
  • Technical aptitude to fully understand and acquire the necessary knowledge required to effectively collaborate with team members on any project
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and influence others, including working across different groups to drive commonality and reusability in solution design
  • Ability to travel up to 50% annually, travel may be lower depending on project requirements


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Epic certification (EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient, etc.)
  • 3+ years of clinical experience preferred e.g., RN, RT, MA. PA
  • Experience with ambient and AI solutions within healthcare environments
  • Consulting experience with a focus on analyzing and interpreting client needs and creating value through professional client delivery
  • In-depth knowledge of EHR and the full implementation lifecycle of an electronic medical record application from conception through development into production

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
