Job Title: Health and Safety Superintendent

Job Location: Painesville Oh

What You'll Do:

Leads and supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the facility's Health and Safety (H&S) and Responsible Care® programs to safeguard employees, contractors, communities, and assets. Provides technical expertise to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, corporate requirements, and industry standards while driving risk reduction, process safety performance, and a culture of operational excellence consistent with Lubrizol's Values and Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) Policy.

What We're Looking For:
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Health & Safety programs, policies, standards, and initiatives in support of regulatory compliance, Responsible Care® Management System requirements, and corporate objectives.
  • Drive a culture of safety excellence by partnering with leaders and employees to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards and risks.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance regarding applicable health and safety regulations, corporate requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Facilitate risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action development, and verification of sustainable closure.
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate leading and lagging performance indicators; identify trends and proactively drive actions to address performance gaps.
  • Oversee contractor safety processes and performance to ensure compliance with site requirements and safe execution of work.
  • Manage Workers' Compensation programs, claims administration, return-to-work activities, and case management efforts.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate health and safety training programs to ensure employee competency and regulatory compliance.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response programs, including drill and exercise participation.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for Health & Safety personnel to build organizational capability and drive engagement.
  • Manage departmental resources, budgets, and priorities to ensure effective execution of strategic and operational objectives.
  • Represent Lubrizol with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, community groups, and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen safety performance, reduce risk, and enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills That Make a Difference:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible health and safety experience, preferably within chemical manufacturing or other high-hazard industrial operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable regulations and programs, including OSHA General Industry and Construction Standards, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Workers' Compensation, and Contractor Safety Management.
  • Experience with incident investigation methodologies, root cause analysis, risk assessment techniques, and corrective action management.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into effective site-level programs and procedures.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related business applications.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence employees and leaders at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
