Job Description:

We are searching for the best talent for Head of Human Resources, Technology Services (TS) and ISRM, based in New Brunswick or Raritan, NJ.

Purpose: As a Business Unit Head of Human Resources, Technology Services and ISRM, you will provide strategic HR partnership to TS and ISRM (Cybersecurity) in JJT, contribute to shaping business strategy, and drive aligned outcomes in these focus areas:  

  • Leverage internal and external insights to diagnose and design organizations optimized to achieve strategic goals

  • Design and deploy data-driven talent strategies that curate the talent and capabilities required to deliver

  • Shape and steward our culture and employee experiences that will attract, inspire, and retain top talent

  • Accelerate performance through leadership coaching and team effectiveness

  • Partner across our OneHR model to deliver on talent and organizational strategies

Core Responsibilities

Business strategy

  • Fluent in key business strategies, as well as external market competitive landscape

  • Represent OneHR and provide strategic input on business strategy

  • Understand what the business needs (through diagnosis, analysis, data), including organizational health, and what the function must bring to meet those needs, leveraging the breadth of the OneHR model

  • Partner with the business on how to ensure organization is optimally set up to deliver on business strategy inclusive of annual business planning and long-range financial planning (e.g., workforce planning)

  • Lead organizational design efforts to position business for the future, inclusive of workforce planning to lead workforce of the future efforts incorporating technology workforce implications

Talent strategy and management

  • Identify and diagnose talent needs of the business through strong business and analytical acumen and effective analysis

  • Create and deploy talent strategy to attract, develop, reward, and retain talent, including robust succession-planned pipeline and critical capability building (e.g., AI and critical technical capabilities)

  • Own and drive talent management for the business/function/geography; set and action priorities, develop talent talk rhythm aligned to global calendar; inclusive of alignment on talent pools and measurement of progress via talent metrics (e.g., retention, movement)

  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to define strategy to source and acquire talent in critical capability areas and competitive landscapes, such as cybersecurity, AI and data/analytics.

  • Lead succession planning for EC/GOC critical business/function roles, as appropriate; assess pipeline strength and develop plans to strengthen as needed

  • Partner across OneHR model to assess current state and enhance capability through buy/build/borrow strategy in partnership with Talent Acquisition and J&J Learn

  • Support career planning and pathing efforts as part of overall talent strategy

  • Consult with business on future talent needs to ensure market competitiveness, particularly in critical technology skill areas (e.g., cybersecurity, engineering, AI, etc)

Culture and engagement

  • Support cultural transformations of the business, inclusive of digital transformation and resulting cultural change

  • Partner with business leaders to shape culture and employee engagement strategies guided by Our Credo/Our Voice survey insights, employee sentiment, attrition and exit survey insights, predictive retention modeling, etc.

  • Identify, define, and help build key mindsets/behaviors for the business in partnership with business leaders

  • Drive culture of Our Credo, growth, collaboration, and inclusion within teams

Leadership coaching and effectiveness

  • Develop trusted partnerships and coaching relationships with leaders and teams to build leadership capabilities and enhance leader impact, including improving leader capability on performance management, coaching, and feedback

  • Partner with business leaders on team effectiveness program options and identification of facilitators

  • Ensure meaningful engagement, development, energy, and effective performance of team

In addition to BUHR responsibilities, this role will be responsible for partnering on the execution of J&J’s enterprise-wide AI fluency strategy, enabling a future-ready, digitally fluent workforce through targeted learning, adoption metrics, and cross-functional collaboration.  This includes:

  • Partner across Learn, JJT, HR Digital, and AI Council and other key stakeholders to support program strategy and execution

  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable workstreams aligned with the HR2030 vision and JJT AI and digital talent strategy

  • Define and evolve enterprise metrics for digital talent and AI fluency across the maturity curve from education to adoption to value realization, in partnership with the business, Learn, and HR Digital/Workforce Analytics

  • Provide strategic insight into JJT and enterprise workforce transformation, inclusive of workforce planning identifying emerging roles and skill gaps, and reimagining work design to unlock new ways of working

  • Facilitate cross-functional partnerships across HR, JJT, and business units to ensure seamless integration of AI fluency efforts and workforce transformation

  • Bring in external insights, trends, best practices to shape new and innovative ideas for digital talent within JJT and across the enterprise, and partner effectively to pilot and implement.

  • Be an avid learner, passionate about the potential impact of AI technologies to enhance patient outcomes. 

Qualifications

  • This position will be located in New Brunswick or Raritan, NJ and require 15% travel.

  • Years of experience:

    • 8+ years’ professional experience, including managerial experience coaching and leading talent; minimum of 5 years of progressive HR or HR-related experience required

  • Demonstrated strong ability to influence without authority across a matrix organization

  • Ability to partner with diverse stakeholders and teams to deliver outcomes

  • Previous people leadership experience

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to use data to inform and influence decisions and scalable solutions

  • Embodies a growth mindset; constantly seeking out new challenges to stretch oneself

  • Flexible and adaptable with the ability to sustain outstanding performance in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

  • Strong project management and organizational change skills with experience on large, complex, global projects

  • Understanding of and passion for technical and AI /digital talent, skills, and product-centric organizational models, including:

    • Understanding of ethical considerations and responsible AI practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.

    • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and adopt new AI tools and ways of working to meet evolving business needs.

    • Hands-on experience generating prompts — creating, refining, and measuring prompts to boost workflow efficiency and performance.

    • Understanding AI concepts and use cases, including agentic AI, with the ability to translate business processes and workflows into AI opportunities.

    • Proven experience leveraging Copilot and other AI tools and technologies to enhance personal productivity and/or department performance.

    • Ability to collaborate with technical teams to identify AI opportunities, evaluate feasibility, and accelerate AI-enabled ways of working adoption.

  • Preferred experiences

    • Demonstrated experience defining skills/competencies and/or implementing skills-based talent strategies

    • Understanding or experience working within and/or driving product-centric model and culture

    • Demonstrated use of innovative approaches to building and leveraging digital and AI talent and capabilities

$150,000.00 - $258,750.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Companys consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Companys long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation 120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado 48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington 56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays 13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave 120 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
