A Day in the Life
The Systems Engineering Lead provides overall technical leadership for the development of complex medical devices for the Endoscopy Operating Unit. This role defines system architecture and ensures integration across electrical hardware, RF communications, firmware, and mechanical design to meet product performance, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements. Projects often include disposables, capital equipment, wearables, short term implants, and multiple software components.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Define and maintain hardware system architecture for the product, including electronics, firmware, and mechanical integration.
  • Translate user and product requirements into system and subsystem technical specifications that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Lead technical tradeoff studies (power, RF performance, component selection, manufacturability, cost).
  • Coordinate design activities across PCB, firmware, RF antenna, and enclosure development.
  • Work closely with the Software Lead to define feature sets, integration points, and testing plans.
  • Ensure subsystem integration and resolve cross-disciplinary technical issues.
  • Guide design reviews, risk management activities, and verification planning.
  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure design for manufacturability and compliance with medical device standards.
  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost, risk, and supportability for total systems.
  • Provide technical leadership to internal engineers and external development partners.


Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.


Nice to Have
  • Electrical engineering or related technical degree.
  • Experience in embedded electronics and system integration.
  • Familiarity with RF design considerations and antenna integration.
  • Experience leading NPD programs in regulated environments.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. A7 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$150,400.00 - $225,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
