Full Job Description
The Hardware Compliance Engineer is the primary liaison between the certification labs and the Futurex engineering team, ensuring that Futurex hardware meets relevant regulations and industry standards. They provide technical leadership for certification initiatives, including PCI PTS, FIPS 140-3, environmental and safety compliance, and regulatory requirements. This role demands a deep understanding of engineering principles, encryption hardware, regulatory frameworks, certification requirements, and cryptographic design and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Hardware Certification
• Lead hardware certification process to Futurex hardware
• Primary point of contact between Futurex and the certification labs
• Interpret certification requirements and communicate obligations to the Futurex engineering team
• Provide technical guidance during the hardware design and development to ensure certification requirements are considered early in product lifecycle
• Continuously evaluate changes to the hardware/firmware to determine the impact on the current hardware certificates and initiate the process for any delta certification if required
• Manage complex certification projects involving multiple stakeholders, balance competing priorities, and drive certification activities from initial planning through final approval

Environmental/Safety Compliance
• Monitor domestic and international environmental and safety regulations affecting Futurex products
• Hardware Compliance Engineer must interpret regulations to determine compliance obligations for existing and future products
• Coordinate testing, assessments, and certifications required for Futurex hardware to satisfy the environment or safety regulation

Reporting and Documentation
• Maintain complete and accurate certification records for all certification/compliance activities and findings
• Prepare appropriate reports for the labs/regulatory bodies and senior management updates
• Track certification process, renewals, compliance risks, and remediation activities
• Document and report any deficiencies in the hardware/firmware that would make certification/compliance of Futurex products challenging

Industry Engagement
• Represent Futurex in industry groups (e.g. ANSI X9) and attend meetings
• Actively contribute to industry discussions and provide recommendations regarding the impact of evolving standards on Futurex products and strategy

Requirements

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or information technology.
• 3-6 years of experience in hardware certification, product compliance, or cryptographic systems.
• Experience with leading PCI PTS hardware approval or FIPS 140-2 / FIPS 140-3 hardware certification.
• Strong knowledge of cryptographic implementations.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience within the financial services industry such as banking or payment processing
• Knowledge of Post Quantum Cryptography
• Recognized security or compliance certifications such as CISSP, GPEN, CSSLP etc.
• Experience working directly with accredited testing laboratories and certification bodies.

Working Conditions:
• Office environment. The position will be located at Futurex Engineering Campus in Bulverde, Texas.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Involves handling sensitive and confidential information.
