Position Overview
Atrium Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing Urologic Oncology team in an outpatient-focused practice. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care to patients with acute and chronic oncologic urologic conditions. The APP will practice with a high degree of autonomy while partnering closely with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient-centered care.
This position combines direct patient care, clinical decision-making, procedural responsibilities, patient education, and care coordination while supporting Atrium Health's missions of excellence in patient care, education, research, and innovation.
Position Highlights
- Outpatient-focused Urology Oncology practice
- 32 patient contact hours per week
- 8 hours administrative time per week
- No weekends
- Minimal or no night call requirements
- Participation in weekly Urology academic conferences
- Eligible for overtime, shift differentials, PTO, and performance incentive bonuses
- $2,500 CME allowance per 40-hour workweek position
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic urologic oncology conditions.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies and laboratory results.
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and disease management.
- Manage post-operative follow-up care and address surgical complications as needed.
- Coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams and healthcare settings.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
Procedural Responsibilities
Perform procedures within scope of practice and collaborative agreements, including:
- Catheter insertion and catheter changes
- Complex bladder irrigation
- Urethral dilation
- Bedside incision and drainage
- Suturing
- Chemotherapy bladder instillation
- Prostate transrectal ultrasound and biopsy
- Cystoscopy procedures, including foreign body removal and complex Foley catheter placement
- Additional procedures as approved within departmental practice agreements
Professional Practice
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives.
- Contribute to the education of students and healthcare professionals.
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic conferences, and committee work.
- Promote evidence-based practice and continuous clinical improvement.
- Serve as a patient advocate and support care coordination efforts.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Current or eligible licensure as an NP or PA in North Carolina.
- Current DEA registration and prescriptive authority.
- BLS Certification through the American Heart Association.
- Ability to demonstrate strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- One or more years of APP experience.
- Prior experience in Urology, Oncology, Surgical Services, or a related specialty.
