Job Announcement Do you want to keep our streams and the Bay clean for everyone? The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) seeks a Grant Administrator (Management Analysist II) to support the Stormwater Business area of the Department of Public Works by helping us seek out and manage grant funding for our Capital Infrastructure Projects.
Key responsibilities are...
- Researching grant opportunities, writing applications, tracking awards and applications, managing agreements, and managing payments.
- For awarded grants, obtains input and documentation from stakeholders to ensure information is submitted on time.
- Identifies DPWES projects for grants via the Community Flood Preparedness Fund, Stormwater Local Assistance Fund, and other federal, state, and local grants.
- Composes grant applications and assembles the associated packages for Board notification, submittal to the granting entity, and notification of other partners both inside and outside the County regarding the grant applications.
- Assists Watershed Project Implementation staff with project management and administration tasks resulting in the design and/or construction of various stormwater projects.
- Perform basic GIS spatial analysis with the creation of maps and data analysis to support the Stormwater Capital Improvement Program within Fairfax County.

The appointee to this position is subject to emergency callback 24 hours a day/seven days a week (24/7) to respond to snow, flood, and other designated emergencies requiring division resources, on an as-needed basis.
In 2027, all Wastewater Collection Division assignments will be permanently located at the new Water Resources and Infrastructure building, located at 6000 Freds Oak Road, Burke, VA 22015. Position may require traveling to multiple Fairfax County sites.
NOTE: The functional areas of this position are grant management, technical support, GIS and data analysis, and communications.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- One (1) year experience with knowledge of and experience with researching grant opportunities, writing applications, tracking awards and applications, managing agreements, and managing payments.
- One (1) year experience with knowledge of Stormwater management practices.
- One (1) year experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel,) and Data visualization tools.
- One (1) year experience with demonstrating experience in the use and configuration of the Esri ArcGIS platform to create and sustain maps, data, analyses, and applications in support of business processes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form, in order to engage with colleagues and customers through phone calls, video conferences and face-to-face meetings. Ability to hike or field walk rugged, uneven and steep terrain in stream and stream valleys to perform field investigation on storm drainage, stormwater management and stream channel projects. Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. Ability to stand for 2 hours at a time. Physically and mentally able to use all applicable personal protective equipment in an outdoor environment, including hardhat, eye protection, hearing protection and safety footwear. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
