Location: Remote in the US, Chicago or DC based preferred
Travel: approx 8x/year
WHAT YOU WILL DO• Serve as a strategic advisor to ASPS/PSF physician and volunteer leaders, including the Board Vice President of Advocacy and Health Policy, the ASPS President, committees, task forces, and advisory groups.
• Lead and develop the Advocacy and Government Relations and Health and Payment Policy teams, ensuring high-quality programs, resources, communications, and policy initiatives.
• Establish the strategic and financial direction of the departments, manage budgets, monitor revenue and expenses, and identify opportunities to generate non-dues revenue and support organizational growth.
• Develop and execute state and federal advocacy strategies addressing legislative, regulatory, reimbursement, patient safety, and clinical-practice priorities affecting plastic surgery.
• Serve as ASPS's primary lobbyist before Congress, state legislatures, and other governmental and regulatory bodies while building relationships with key coalitions and partner organizations.
• Oversee ASPS's engagement with public and private payers, advocating for appropriate coverage policies, reimbursement practices, and CPT valuation.
• Strengthen communication and engagement with ASPS members, physician leaders, state and regional plastic surgery societies, policymakers, payers, and other external stakeholders.
• Oversee PlastyPAC's strategy and operations, including contribution planning, recipient assessment, and compliance with federal and state reporting requirements.
• Build advocacy capacity among ASPS members and affiliated societies through education, training, grassroots engagement, and state-specific programs and resources.
• Represent ASPS and cultivate productive partnerships with organizations such as the AMA, CMSS, the Alliance for Specialty Medicine, medical associations, specialty societies, and other healthcare coalitions.
• Participate in evening conference calls and travel locally and out of state as needed,
WHAT YOU WILL NEED• A bachelor's degree in public policy, business, communications, education, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
• At least seven years of direct staff-management experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
• At least 10 years of experience in public policy, government affairs, advocacy, community mobilization, communications, or grassroots advocacy strategy.
• Proven success leading collaborative projects, developing advocacy initiatives, and planning and managing events.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local government structures, legislative processes, regulatory activities, and advocacy strategies.
• Advanced policy and systems-analysis capabilities, along with excellent managerial, budgeting, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and public-speaking skills, with the ability to adapt communications for members, volunteer leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
• The ability to work collaboratively with boards, committees, task forces, staff teams, and external partners.
