The AWS Data Center Design Services team is looking for a Global VDC Manager to develop and lead the organization's Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) and lifecycle digital delivery strategy across the global data center portfolio. This role is responsible for building enterprise BIM governance, advancing digital construction capabilities, and extending the value of model-based information beyond design into construction, commissioning, operations, and asset management.
The VDC Manager will drive global strategy and cross-functional influence, enabling downstream teams to leverage digital project information, delivering measurable business outcomes, and maintaining enterprise standards that scale across regions and project generations. The role starts by building program foundations: improving Exchange Information Requirements (EIR), establishing governance frameworks, conducting stakeholder assessments, and proving value through early wins. As the program matures and impact is demonstrated, the role grows into full enterprise ownership of digital delivery strategy, cross-organizational influence, and lifecycle digital twin initiatives.
The right candidate thrives in ambiguity, earns scope through delivery, and sees BIM/VDC not as a technical discipline but as a strategic business capability that drives cost, schedule, quality, and operational outcomes at portfolio scale
Key job responsibilities
This role operates across internal engineering, construction, and operations teams as well as external design consultants, trade contractors, and technology partners. Key responsibilities include:
* Define and maintain the global VDC roadmap spanning design, construction, commissioning, and operations, enabling downstream customers to leverage BIM data at every lifecycle phase.
* Drive VDC alignment across AMER, EMEA, and APAC, working backwards from customer needs to deliver measurable outcomes with consistency and scalability.
*Evaluate and improve BIM standards, EIR, BEP, and governance documentation to standardize implementation globally.
*Map BIM/VDC workflows to identify waste, and leverage AI, automation, and tooling to drive efficiency.
* Partner with CM, DCCD, and Design Services teams to align coordination workflows, digital delivery standards, and feedback loops across regions.
* Develop a VDC scoring framework and dashboards to measure BIM quality, coordination effectiveness, and asset readiness, integrating AI-driven analytics to forecast risk and communicate value to leadership.
* Establish model coordination and clash detection programs, measuring resolution rates, cost avoidance, and RFI reduction.
* Lead pilot programs for advanced workflows: 4D scheduling, model-based estimating, reality capture, digital twins, progress tracking, and digital turnover.
* Drive R&D by evaluating emerging technologies, piloting workflows, and quantifying business impact at scale.
* Travel to data center sites as required (on average 6 times per year).
A day in the life
On a normal day you will assess VDC program health across active projects, reviewing coordination metrics, model quality dashboards, and stakeholder feedback to identify risks and improvement opportunities. You will meet with regional BIM CIM teams and Design Managers to align on EIR compliance, digital delivery milestones, and coordination outcomes. You will partner with Construction Management and commissioning teams to ensure model-based information flows downstream effectively. You will also drive innovation pilots, evaluate emerging technologies, and develop business cases that quantify VDC value for leadership. You may travel to regional sites to conduct stakeholder assessments, align cross-functional teams, and support hands-on VDC program implementation.
