JOB SUMMARY

The Global Training Lead leads the global CDMO learning, human performance, workforce capability, and organizational effectiveness agenda while serving as the hands-on training leader for the Small Molecules North America site. The role establishes scalable network standards and site programs across onboarding, technical and GMP qualification, early talent, trainer and leadership development, organization effectiveness, competency models, learning systems, and human performance.

Partnering with Operations, Quality, EHS, Human Resources, Engineering, PS&T, Supply Chain, Information Technology, and leaders, the role strengthens critical-task defenses and a fair, learning-oriented culture. Success is reflected in proficiency, sustained qualification, leadership capability, fewer recurring performance-related events, workforce readiness, and contributions to quality, safety, delivery, and retention.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Global learning, human performance, and network governance. Execute a multi-year strategy aligned with growth, site performance, client commitments, quality, workforce plans, technology, and operational excellence. Set global standards for curricula, role-based learning, qualification, trainers, content, review cycles, effectiveness, records, and human performance practices, and lead cross-site adoption while meeting local requirements.
  • Human performance, site learning, and operational execution. Embed a systems-based approach to human fallibility and work conditions; identify error-likely situations, critical steps, performance-shaping factors, defenses, and learning opportunities. Translate site priorities into annual training, qualification, and human performance plans and coordinate instructors, production schedules, floor observations, trainer coaching, job-aid improvements, capability-gap closure, cross-shift support, and improvement activities.
  • Onboarding, early talent, and trainer development. Own onboarding through role readiness, integrating enterprise/site orientation, GMP, EHS, quality culture, human performance, manager involvement, mentor support, and 30/60/90-day components. Govern apprenticeship, internship, early-career, and trainer qualification programs, including standards, rotations, external partnerships, conversion/retention, adult learning, facilitation, on-the-job instruction, coaching, assessment, documentation, observation, requalification, and critical-step coaching.
  • Technical qualification, learning systems, and performance support. Partner with subject matter experts on competency matrices, critical-task analyses, blended curricula, on-the-job guides, assessments, job aids, performance support, and qualification pathways. Govern LMS curricula, assignments, roles, data integrity, reporting, and integrations, and expand digital and point-of-work support through visual controls, prompts, and guided workflows.
  • Leadership development and learning culture. Develop frontline and senior leaders in quality/safety culture, coaching, accountability, psychological safety, response to mistakes, performance-shaping factors, change leadership, decision-making, inclusion, and customer focus. Reinforce data integrity, respect, speaking up, continuous improvement, fair accountability, learning from work and events, and leader ownership for improving systems.
  • Organization effectiveness, change, and workforce readiness. Advise on operating models, role clarity, decision rights, staffing, workload, interfaces, capabilities, job architecture, workforce transitions, talent pipelines, and succession. Lead people-readiness for start-ups, expansions, technology transfers, new products/equipment, digital systems, organization changes, and major process changes, establishing critical steps, job aids, and defenses before go-live.
  • GMP, quality, and event learning. Align learning with the quality management system, controlled documents, change controls, deviations, CAPAs, and audits. Support investigations and learning reviews by distinguishing knowledge/skill gaps from system contributors and recommending sustainable controls rather than defaulting to retraining.
  • Analytics and performance effectiveness. Track proficiency, qualification cycle time, observed performance, repeat events, retraining, human performance tool use, closure of error-likely conditions, onboarding retention, and leadership readiness. Use learning, observation, assessment, operational/event data, feedback, and follow-up to determine whether gaps require learning, coaching, process redesign, stronger defenses, or organizational action.
  • Resource, vendor, and program leadership. Lead matrixed training or human performance resources and, if assigned, direct reports; manage vendors, budgets, contracts, content investments, enterprise-scale delivery, and manager accountability for learning and qualification.
  • Adhere to all company SHE policies and procedures, actively participate in hazard identification and environmental risk reduction, and report all incidents, nonconformities, and potential hazards to management to support a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace.
  • Other responsibilities. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Learning and Development, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Human Factors, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Business, Life Sciences, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • Ten or more years of progressive relevant experience, including five or more years in regulated manufacturing (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotechnology, API, specialty chemical, medical device, or similar), with working knowledge of GMP and quality systems; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience leading global or multi-site programs across cultures, functions, time zones, and matrixed organizations; CDMO experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success across onboarding, early talent, train-the-trainer, technical qualification, leadership development, human performance, organization/work design, competency frameworks, workforce/succession planning, operating-model changes, and change management.
  • Hands-on experience with instructional design, facilitation, on-the-job training, assessment, coaching, critical-task analysis, performance-shaping factors, operational learning, sustainable error-reduction controls, LMS governance, analytics, and leadership of people or complex project teams, vendors, contracts, and budgets.

COMPETENCIES/SKILLS

  • Enterprise and site perspective. Balances global direction with practical manufacturing execution.
  • Human performance, learning systems, and GMP acumen. Applies systems thinking, human factors, adult learning, qualification, performance support, regulated-operations knowledge, and safety/quality discipline.
  • Organization, leadership development, and just culture. Applies coaching, psychological safety, fair accountability, role clarity, organization design, succession, and change enablement.
  • Matrix influence, communication, and cultural agility. Builds trust, aligns and challenges stakeholders, facilitates effectively, and works across functions, regions, languages, cultures, and time zones.
  • Program, data, improvement, and digital leadership. Manages complex initiatives and risk; uses learning, qualification, deviation, operational data, structured problem-solving, and technology to improve outcomes.
  • Integrity and judgment. Handles sensitive information with discretion and applies fair, evidence-based judgment.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES

  • No specific certification or professional license is required.
  • Preferred credentials include ATD Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) or equivalent, recognized human performance or human factors practitioner training, facilitation or train-the-trainer certification, change-management certification, Lean Six Sigma, and/or an accredited coaching credential.
  • A valid passport and ability to meet domestic and international travel requirements are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role is based at an assigned manufacturing site and combines office, classroom, virtual, laboratory, and manufacturing-floor work. Regular interaction with operations across multiple shifts and global time zones is required; occasional early-morning, evening, or weekend support may be necessary. Domestic and international travel is expected, typically up to 25%, with periods of increased travel for major launches, site start-ups, or network initiatives.

This role may involve work in laboratory or manufacturing environments with potential exposure to chemicals or other regulated substances. As a condition of employment, incumbents may be required to participate in employer-provided medical surveillance programs in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and company policy.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

  • Ability to move between office, classroom, laboratory, and manufacturing areas and to sit, stand, walk, and use stairs for extended periods as business needs require.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with site safety and gowning requirements, subject to applicable medical clearance.
  • Ability to use a computer and audiovisual equipment, communicate with groups, observe work practices, handle training materials, and occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
