This position is a GIS Specialist with the National Park Service in one of the following locations:

San Fransico, CA

Sausalito, CA

Duties

The major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

• Design, manage, and implement programmatic GIS, including GIS database and enterprise database management systems (ArcGIS Pro, ArGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, SDE, SQL Server).
• Geospatial Analysis and Modeling: Using and integrating computer models and other tools to conduct spatial modeling for a wide variety of purposes including data and trends analysis, data management efficiency, etc.
• Develops high quality digital and hardcopy cartographic and GIS products; Provides training, software and hardware support to GOGA staff in using GIS and GPS tools and products.
• Communication and Collaboration: Coordinates with specialists in other disciplines, other park divisions and external partners. Communicates clearly and provides excellent customer service.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/14/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the Individual Occupational Requirement for the series to which you are applying (see education section) AND the minimum qualifications for the grade level:

Minimum Qualifications GS-0150/0401/1301/1370-12 grade level:

A. Experience: In addition to meeting the Individual Occupation Requirement (see education section), you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as: (1) creating and managing geospatial data;(2) training others in the use of GIS and GPS applications; (3) creating geospatial data and maps following established guidelines; and (4) developing, updating, and managing map services. You must include hours per week worked. -OR-

B, Education: There is no substitution for education at this grade level.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

This position has a mandatory education requirement. You must meet the Individual Occupational Requirement for one of the following job series as well as the minimum qualifications for the grade level listed in the qualifications section of this announcement.

Individual Occupational Requirement Geographer 0150 Series:

A. Degree: Have successfully completed a degree in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. Note: You must submit your transcripts.

OR

B. Combination:Have a combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours) in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

OR

Individual Occupational Requirement Biologist 0401 Series:

A. Degree: Have successfully completed a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Note: You must submit your transcripts.

OR

B. Combination:Have a combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note: You must submit your transcripts.

OR

Individual Occupational Requirement General Physical Science 1301 series:

A. Degree: Have successfully completed a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. Note: You must include transcripts.

OR

B. Combination:Have a combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours), as shown in A above, that has included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

OR

Individual Occupational Requirement Cartographer 1370 series:

A. Degree:Have successfully completed a degree in cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). Note: You must include transcripts.

OR

B. Combination:Have a combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Transcripts must include your name, school name, grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, and date the degree was conferred, if applicable.
