Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder is seeking a creative and talented Geotechnical Engineering Lead to lead its geotechnical engineering practice in Nevada.  Kleinfelder's Nevada offices support a variety of public and private clients in the areas of Transportation, Energy, Water, Facilities and other projects.  We are looking for a dynamic leader to grow the local practice and work with other leadership within Nevada and the West Region.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and growing Kleinfelder’s Las Vegas geotechnical team, business development, and coordinating services with internal and external teams. As part of the assigned duties, the Geotechnical Engineering Lead will perform operational support and supervisor duties, geotechnical engineering design, construction support and oversight, and project management with integrity and a drive to succeed.  The successful candidate will be required to ensure high client service by providing constructible designs, responsiveness to client needs and project questions, meeting deadlines and creating clear communications with our clients and staff.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in identifying and capturing business development opportunities, preparing proposal scopes and budgets, owner/teaming relationships, and/or leading technical aspects of large pursuits
  • Proven experience in leading diverse project teams
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring staff
  • Proven experience being a trusted advisor to clients of all sizes
  • Proven experience assisting clients from design through construction
  • Pro-actively troubleshoot and problem-solve with practical, client-focused solutions
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in geotechnics, slope stability, foundation design and earthwork
  • Attract, hire, and mentor strong new team members
  • Organize priorities and multi-task effectively
  • Collaborate with area leadership and project managers to effectively resource and deliver
  • Oversee management of projects from cradle-to-grave in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Exhibit external focus to grow client relationships and develop business through the work

 

Position requirements:

  • 12+ years of related geotechnical experience in consulting engineering - 15+ years is highly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required; MS degree in geotechnical engineering or equivalent highly preferred  
  • Nevada Professional Engineering license 
  • Proven experience in geotechnical design and local issues and practices
  • Minimum of 4 years of previous project management experience
  • Past experience or similar related skills in leading diverse project teams
  • Proven experience in business development opportunities and preparing proposals

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Be a recognized leader in their field
  • Have the ability to develop highly motivated individuals
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams
  • Have experience planning, implementing, and managing geotechnical exploration programs including assigning laboratory testing
  • Have experience guiding staff engineers in performing material and site characterization, foundation recommendations, slope stability, and settlement analyses, etc.
  • Have experience preparing geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications for foundations and earthwork for a wide range of projects including transportation, water, retail, hospitality, commercial, etc.
  • Have experience supporting project managers in budget management, client updates, and general project management tasks
  • Have experience preparing and presenting technical presentations to clients and technical review boards
  • Have experience supervising field observation, testing, and performing site visits
  • Be able to pro-actively troubleshoot and problem-solve with practical, client-focused solutions
  • Be able to interface with the civil design team to develop and value-engineer practical, fit-for-use geotechnical engineering solutions
  • Be able to organize priorities and multi-task effectively
  • Be able to collaborate with Area leadership and Project Managers to resource delivery effectively
  • Possess a thirst to learn and achieve continuous improvement in a team environment
