You will work closely with geologists, technologists, engineers, laboratory staff, operations personnel, and clients to deliver technically sound work, maintain strong safety performance, and support successful project execution from planning through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, lead, and support geotechnical field investigations, including drilling, test pitting, sampling, instrumentation, and in-situ testing programs.
  • Complete geotechnical assessments and engineering analyses related to foundations, slope stability, retaining systems, earthworks, roads, and mining-related infrastructure.
  • Prepare clear, high-quality technical reports, engineering memoranda, proposals, and practical recommendations for clients and project teams.
  • Provide field engineering and construction support, including inspections, instrument installation oversight, performance monitoring, and QA/QC observation for soils, aggregate, and concrete works.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulators, and internal teams to maintain compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, and site-specific safety expectations.
  • Support project delivery by contributing to scheduling, budgeting, scope development, and day-to-day technical decision-making.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technologists by sharing technical knowledge, reviewing work, and supporting professional development.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships that support repeat work, trusted partnerships, and future business opportunities.
  • Demonstrate and promote Terracon's S.I.T.E. values in all aspects of your work.

  • P.Eng. designation in Alberta, or eligibility for registration with APEGA.
  • Strong technical foundation in soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, earthworks, and geotechnical interpretation.
  • Experience in mining, heavy civil, energy, or northern/remote project environments is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with field investigations, construction monitoring, instrumentation programs, and technical reporting is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to perform fieldwork in active industrial, mining, and construction environments as required.

Location & Work Environment

  • This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, supporting local and regional projects in one of Western Canada's most active industrial and mining markets.
