Job DescriptionThe Development Analyst is responsible for supporting field development planning, inventory management, economic evaluations, and technical analysis activities within an oil and gas development organization. This role works closely with engineering, geoscience, land, operations, and management teams to optimize development strategies, evaluate drilling opportunities, and support business planning initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience working with large datasets, and the ability to integrate engineering, geoscience, and business information into actionable development plans. This position requires a data-driven professional who can effectively communicate technical findings and recommendations to both technical and leadership teams.
Responsibilities- Conduct technical and economic analyses to support field development planning, well performance evaluations, budgeting, and inventory management.
- Analyze drilling inventory and development opportunities to optimize field development strategies.
- Utilize multiple databases, software applications, and reporting tools to organize, manage, and analyze technical and operational data.
- Maintain high standards of data integrity, governance, and quality control across development planning systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, geoscience, operations, and land teams to develop and communicate field development strategies.
- Support development planning evaluations and scenario analysis for proposed drilling and development programs.
- Maintain alignment between development plans and inventory systems used for budgeting, scheduling, permitting, reserves, facilities planning, and operational execution.
- Prepare documentation and supporting materials necessary for development plan approvals and execution.
- Support change management processes associated with development planning activities.
- Maintain and update spatial, inventory, and development datasets within company systems and databases.
- Perform ad hoc technical analyses, inventory evaluations, and economic assessments to support business decisions.
- Create dashboards, reports, visualizations, and presentations for technical teams and leadership.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to development planning, data management, and reporting processes.
- Present findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
- Perform additional analytical and project-related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geology, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related discipline required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical, analytical, engineering, geoscience, or development-focused role.
- Experience within the oil and gas industry preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong understanding of data management, governance, and quality control principles.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Experience with SQL, Access, Oracle databases, and data querying techniques.
- Familiarity with GIS platforms and spatial data management.
- Experience with inventory management, development planning, reserves, budgeting, or economic evaluations.
- Knowledge of upstream oil and gas development workflows and planning processes.
- Experience performing scenario modeling, forecasting, and economic analysis.
- Familiarity with workflow automation and data integration tools such as Alteryx or similar platforms.
Work Environment- Office-based or hybrid work environment supporting technical and business teams.
- Frequent interaction with engineering, geoscience, operations, land, and management personnel.
- Fast-paced environment requiring management of multiple projects and priorities.
- May require occasional travel to support meetings, planning sessions, or field development reviews.
