Full Job Description
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Technical):

  • Review and become familiar with reference background information such as geotechnical exploration reports, project specifications and civil/structural plans for use during design and preparation of the design drawings and calculations.
  • Analyze various ground improvement approaches and select the option that meets the project criteria.
  • Develop cross sections, generate soil profiles, and select soil properties for design.
  • Perform finite element modeling, as needed, to understand complex soil-structure interactions and estimate deformations and stresses within the soil and ground improvement elements.
  • Perform all required design calculations and analyses including, but not limited to, global stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and structural and geotechnical capacity of CMCs.
  • Coordinate or prepare design documents (final design calculations and drawings).
  • Review all Quality Assurance/Quality Control from the Field Engineer.
  • Respond quickly to questions from the project team and any conditions that deviate from the design.
  • Supports design efforts across multiple regions rather than a single assigned territory.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understands basic principles of geotechnical design and can perform basic calculations.
  • Proficient with slope stability analysis and finite element modeling.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook, familiar with AutoCAD.
  • Understands and adheres to Menard's safety and quality standards.
  • Effectively communicates with internal project team members constantly throughout the project.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Develops ideas and offers alternatives to facilitate solutions.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, activities and commitments.


Education and Experience Requirements

Master's or bachelor's degree in civil engineering with geotechnical design experience or coursework

-OR- any equivalent combination of education and experience which meets the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
