Job Description

Select Water's Geologist provides geoscience expertise to support the planning, development, and operational integrity of midstream oil and gas infrastructure. This role emphasizes subsurface characterization, risk assessment, and geohazard mitigation related to saltwater disposal. The individual in this position ensures that midstream assets are strategically sited, safe, and compliant with regulatory geotechnical requirements.

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to
  • Conduct subsurface evaluations using geological mapping, well logs, and geomechanical modeling to support disposal well placement.
  • Perform regional geological risk and resource analyses across a variety of play types.
  • Integrate geological, geophysical, petrophysical, production and disposal data to identify opportunities.
  • Oversees the construction, validation, and continuous improvement of models and volumetric assessments, promoting innovation in geological modeling and data integration.
  • Collaborates closely with internal and external partners, incorporating geophysics, petrophysics, and reservoir engineering to drive field development planning and asset optimization.
  • Provides strategic recommendations for drilling and resource development, balancing technical insight and commercial considerations to guide top-level decision-makers.
  • Ensures the review and quality assurance of technical deliverables, maintaining compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Interpret drilling and completion data from disposal and monitoring wells to validate reservoir performance, formation injection behavior, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support permitting activities with state and federal agencies by preparing and reviewing geological reports, cross-sections, and technical exhibits.
  • Oversee and implement geospatial data management standards and utilize GIS tools for decision support.
  • Works well in a team environment but can also work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with subsurface interpretation tools such as Petra, Geographix, Petrel, Kingdom, ArcGIS, and related modeling applications.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks for Class II injection wells and subsurface storage.
  • Advanced problem-solving capability with a strong analytical orientation.
  • Effective communication of complex geoscience data to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to positively influence project outcomes.
  • Strong organizational abilities and commitment to data accuracy and documentation.

Physical Demands and Exposures
  • Requires a high degree of concentration in a busy area.
  • Must be willing to travel to remote locations and spend considerable time at field locations as required.
  • Position works inside a climate-controlled environment a majority of the time.
  • Traditional Monday through Friday, 8 - 5 pm, unless operational tempo and requirements dictate otherwise.
  • Ability to individually lift: Maximum 25 lbs.
