Job Summary:
The General Manager, Carcass Merchandising is responsible for leading second shift carcass merchandising activities across assigned Tyson Fresh Meats beef operations. This role provides direct leadership, direction, and oversight to Sr Supervisor Carcass Merchandisers and their direct reports to ensure accurate USDA grade application, consistent carcass merchandising execution, grading system integrity, inventory alignment, and timely operational communication.

This position serves as a key second shift leadership role responsible for translating business needs, production priorities, grade projections, and merchandising direction into effective shift-level execution. The position partners closely with Production Planning, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, USDA personnel, and corporate carcass merchandising leadership to address grading accuracy, system performance, staffing coverage, inventory flow, and issue resolution.

The General Manager, Carcass Merchandising, is expected to support team member development, strengthen process compliance, improve cross-shift alignment, and maintain operational continuity during routine and non-routine business needs. This role is positioned between the Sr Supervisor Carcass Merchandising and Manager, Carcass Merchandising levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead second shift carcass merchandising execution to support accurate USDA grade application, product value optimization, customer requirements, and business profitability.
  • Provide direct leadership to second shift Sr Supervisor Carcass Merchandisers and their direct reports, including management support and hourly team members as assigned.
  • Monitor grading systems, camera accuracy, scale processes, tagging, discounting, carcass selection, regrades, and related reporting to ensure consistent application of company and USDA standards.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning on product availability, grade projections, inventory alignment, cattle flow, and operational priorities affecting second shift execution.
  • Serve as the primary second shift escalation point for grading, merchandising, staffing, system, inventory, and process-related issues.
  • Support audits, corrective actions, and process improvements related to carcass grading, merchandising accuracy, camera performance, reporting integrity, and departmental compliance.
  • Maintain effective communication with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, USDA partners, Production Planning, and other internal business partners to resolve issues and support business continuity.
  • Provide training, coaching, scheduling support, shift coordination, and coverage planning for Sr Supervisors and their teams.
  • Compile, review, and communicate grading, program, inventory, and shift performance data to support timely business decisions.
  • Partner with the Manager, Carcass Merchandising to standardize processes, support team development, strengthen accountability, and improve cross-shift alignment.
  • Provide facility or shift coverage as needed for absences, operational surges, emergencies, training periods, or other business needs.

Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent fresh meats, carcass merchandising, grading, or plant operations experience may be considered.

Work Experience:
5 plus years of carcass merchandising, grading, beef plant operations, meat judging, or related fresh meats experience required.

Special Job Competencies:
Leadership, shift coordination, training, or supervisory experience preferred.

Basic Microsoft Office skills required; plant operating systems, grading camera systems, scale systems, scheduling tools, and reporting systems experience preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work across plant, corporate, USDA, and cross-functional teams.

Detail oriented with sound decision-making skills and the ability to adapt to changing business and operational needs.

Knowledge of USDA grade and yield standards, merchandising specifications, tagging and discounting procedures, grading accuracy, and shift-level leadership preferred.

Supervisory:
Supervisory Responsibilities: has supervisory responsibility for management, management support and hourly Team Members, including assisting with training, shift coordination, task direction, and departmental coverage under the guidance of the Manager, Carcass Merchandising.

Travel:
Travel: Non-routine: Grade review trips, training, relief work, and support travel to other Tyson Fresh Meats beef plants may be required as assigned.
