This role is people-centric, accountability-driven, and team-first. General Managers focus on workforce readiness, engagement, strategic resourcing, individual development, and team operational performance. General Managers are responsible for assigning, supporting, mentoring, and developing the people and teams who power day-to-day execution. They ensure teams are structured for flow, resourced appropriately, and empowered to deliver value without unnecessary friction.
Ideal Candidate ProfileWe are especially interested in candidates with software engineering experience, who are looking to transition into management. Prior experience as a software engineer, technical contributor, team lead, or engineering-adjacent leader is strongly preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate understands how technical teams operate, how software delivery environment's function, and how to support engineers while growing into broader people and operational leadership.
The ideal candidate is a respected technical or operational professional who is ready to grow into a broader people leadership role. They understand how high-performing teams work, care deeply about employee development, and can balance empathy with accountability. They are comfortable supporting software engineers and technical teams, but they are equally committed to learning the people operations, workforce planning, and management responsibilities required of a General Manager.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who has built credibility in or around software engineering and is ready to make the jump into management.
Key Responsibilities- Staffing - Interviewing candidates and hiring staff
- Discipline; taking corrective action, terminating staff, and oversee overall health of the department
- Oversight of individualized professional development plans for each employee's development
- Provide expert consultation and be responsible for the growth and development of the department and teams
- Evaluation - Champion communication, feedback, recognition; provide input and feedback on performance; conduct overall performance evaluation
- Recommend promotion or reassignment; Approve promotion/reassignment
- Supervision - Validate work assignment quality; Assign work or project assignments; set schedules/approve time off; Establish goals and performance metrics
- Process/Policies - Develop process/policy changes; Implement process/policy changes and ensure department alignment with the strategic vision of the company
Preferred Qualifications- Familiarity with software development environments, technical team dynamics, agile delivery, product teams, or government/DoD software programs.
- Prior software engineering experience or experience working closely with software engineering teams.
- Experience as a technical contributor looking to move into people leadership, operations, or management.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust with technical employees and translate between technical execution needs and organizational priorities.
- Prior supervisory, team lead, mentoring, or people leadership experience.
Required Qualifications- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and support employees across varying levels of experience.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive personnel matters.
- Ability to balance employee advocacy with organizational accountability.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving, and people-centered environments.
- Ability to partner effectively across Program Management, Human Resources, and senior leadership.
- 1-3 years of supervisory, team lead, mentoring, or equivalent leadership experience preferred.
Salary: Starting salary is $103,500.00
Other Requirements:- Currently hold or have eligibility to obtain and maintain the proper US DoW issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
