GENERAL MANAGER - REDDING, CA

Department: Operations

Reports To: VP of Operations & Supply Chain

FLSA Status: Exempt

Description:

The General Manager will be responsible for P&L management and own all functions for the Redding, CA facility including manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and EHS. The individual will also be responsible for improving processes and implementing a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operations Leadership. Provide overall leadership for the operation, including the development of a site budget, manufacturing strategies, and goals. Work with plant leadership team to develop and drive operating objectives and ensure the facility operates on plan and within budget. Support the development and implementation of plant metrics (e.g., safety, quality, budget, production attainment, associate relations and retention, labor, and material variances, etc.). Measure and monitor performance against metric targets and coach plant leaders in closing gaps and improving performance. Develop working relationships with internal and external customers and foster positive associate relations through honest, open, and transparent communication.


  • Employee Development. Promote a culture of teamwork, responsibility, and accountability within the organization. Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout the operation for problem-solving, process optimization and cost reduction. Encourage the use of analytical methods and data driven problem solving. Develop and grow the capabilities of frontline leadership through mentoring, training, and coaching.


  • Continuous Improvement. Implement methods and procedures to drive continuous improvement throughout the operation. Lead cost reduction and lean manufacturing initiatives. Optimize safety, quality, production, maintenance, procurement, and material management strategies to achieve customer satisfaction through world class KPI performance. Lead collaboration with procurement and material management strategies to achieve lowest total operational cost while maintaining all safety and quality standards. Develop a culture of ownership through employee engagement, growth, and empowerment.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of leadership experience in industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience in leading broad site operations, including manufacturing, purchasing, planning, quality, EHS, and process optimization.
  • Experience in forecasting, budgeting, and P&L management.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading an organization to excellence through others by developing associates to achieve their potential and goals, and the goals and objectives of the operation.
  • Expertise in manufacturing standards and metrics (e.g., KPIs) for safety, quality, production, labor and material variances, and employee relations and retention; establishes a culture of accountability through individual and team metrics.
  • Experience in applying Lean Manufacturing concepts to reduce cost and improve productivity; experience developing and leading continuous improvement teams.
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable and credible with both internal stakeholders and external audiences.
  • A flexible, dynamic, self-demanding and proactive individual; able to motivate themselves and others; a natural bias for action and ability to deal with ambiguity.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to travel as needed.
