ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The General Foreman is located in Portland, Oregon and typically reports directly to the Division Manager/Superintendent. Primary focus is providing superior leadership and management for the project(s) in accordance with policies and procedures adopted by the Company. The General Foreman shall foster an environment of cooperation and support to enable employees to perform to their maximum potential.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure that safety policies are properly established, communicated, and implemented on the project;
  • Scheduling and coordination of crews, equipment, materials, outages, etcetera for performance of the work.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the Project Managers
  • Support estimating as needed and execute work to support the profitable growth of the division;
  • Monitoring day-to-day operations of the project (s) to ensure timely and accurate completion of work and reports with a focus on adherence to established systems and procedures;
  • Provide levels of service quality on the project such that Black & McDonald is regarded as substantially beyond all competition based both on internal and external measures;
  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with clients;
  • Continuously identify and assess risks so as to minimize the exposure of the Company;
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations;
  • Readily accessible to people at all levels and to assist them by lending experience to their decision making;
  • Support efforts to promote and secure work and new business to leverage the existing infrastructure of Company.

  • Attend business development, pre-bid, and construction meetings

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Journeyman Lineman status required

Degree or Diploma a plus and preferably in
  • Estimating
  • Project Management
  • Construction Engineering Technology
  • Construction Management
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • 10 years of distribution lines (overhead/underground) experience.
  • 4 years of experience supervising multiple crews and locations Involved in electrical construction.
  • Must possess Class A CDL driver license, or the ability to obtain within 90-days of employment.
  • Extensive and broad experience in work involving the construction of electrical substations, high-voltage electrical transmission lines, and all electrical construction aspects preferred.
  • Working knowledge of various drilling techniques including rock drilling, slurry methods, temporary and permanent casing, and vibratory methods preferred.
  • Ability, and willingness to travel to obtain and manage customers and projects.
  • Must be a demonstrated communicator and team player.
  • Must possess the ability to support job estimates and quantity take-offs as required.
  • Prefer proficient skills with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Bi-lingual communications ability a great plus, English/Spanish.
  • Demonstrated safety performance record.

  • Support pursuit of new electrical business opportunities with a focus on market segments where our services may be differentiated by expertise or specialization;
  • Identify resource requirements to execute projects in accordance with the estimate;
