Overview

Title: General Dentist

Work site: Dental One Associates (Harford County), P.C, 3435 Box Hill Corporate Center Dr., Suite E, Abingdon, MD 21009

Duties: Diagnose, prevent, and treat teeth and tissue problems. Remove decay, fill cavities, examine x-rays, place protective plastic sealants on children's teeth, and repair fractured teeth. Perform corrective surgery on gums and supporting bones to treat gum diseases. Extract teeth and make models and measurements for dentures to replace missing teeth. Provide instruction on diet, brushing, flossing, use of fluorides, and aspects of dental care. Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications. Place and restore an implant and do cosmetic procedures such as veneers. Use a variety of equipment, including x-ray machines, drills, and instruments such as mouth mirrors, probes, forceps, brushes, and scalpels. Wear masks, gloves, and safety glasses to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases. Supervise other clinical and non-clinical staff as needed in performing treatment.
