Financial Planning & Analytics Analyst, Financial Analytics

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

 

Position Summary:

The Financial Planning and Analytics Analyst III is highly driven leader responsible for supporting value creation through pro-forma and ad-hoc analyses, financial reporting, and decision-support tools for Covenant Health. This role partners with leadership across the system to achieve financial management objectives, delivering accurate, high-quality reports and tools that optimize financial operations. Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining financial decision-support and benchmarking systems, analyzing historical and current performance, and creating models to assess the financial impact of business decisions. Success in this position requires expertise in complex datasets and the ability to present data in a clear, actionable format for enterprise leaders.

Responsibilities

Lead Financial Modeling

  • Develop and maintain financial proformas and models. Coach team members on projections and scenario analysis to support enterprise decision-making. Serves as a backup for department leadership.

 

Analyze Key Metrics

  • Review trends in revenue, expenses, and capital expenditures. Support monthly reporting and identify opportunities for improvement.

 

Manage Decision Support Systems

  • Implement and update financial modules (productivity, contract analytics, market share analytics, and costing). Ensure data accuracy and compliance with operational changes. Actively engages in self-directed learning to deepen knowledge and understanding of decision support tools.

 

Ensure Data Integrity

  • Audit financial data within decision support systems. Reconcile data to source systems and maintain accurate mappings for cost accounting and productivity.

 

Coordinate Benchmarking

  • Submit data for external benchmarking partners on schedule. Validate audit reports, resolve discrepancies, and perform complex benchmarking analysis to identify best practices. Takes lead on initiatives with decision support partners, and proactively makes recommendations for improvement.

 

Support Budget Process

  • Prepare labor and revenue analyses, analyze exception requests, and update productivity targets. Collaborate with Managed Care and Reimbursement teams on aggregate reimbursement assumptions.

 

Deliver High-Quality Analytics

  • Produce timely reports and presentations for system leadership. Provide insights on expense management, revenue opportunities, pricing strategies, and alternative payment models.

 

Provide Leadership and Training

  • Mentor junior staff, lead training on financial modules, and cross-train within the department to ensure continuity of key financial decision support processes. Identifies key areas of opportunity for FP&A processes, tools, and systems. Proactively makes recommendations for improvement and takes lead on implementation.

 

Advise Enterprise Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted thought partner and analytical advisor. Lead workshops on expense management, variance reporting, and contribute to system design improvements. Demonstrates leadership in designing and developing effective financial decision support methods and systems. Builds key relationships across the enterprise, strengthening those relationships to anticipate the business needs of key stakeholder groups.
    • Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education, seminars, and professional affiliations to keep informed of industry trends. Attends professional/society/business meetings.
    • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Education:           

    BS in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline from an accredited academic program. Advanced degree or CPA preferred.

     

    Minimum Experience:         

    Six (6) years of healthcare financial experience, or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience with report writing, detailed, operational and processing knowledge in a healthcare financial environment.
