GM Performance Power Units - Concord, NCFP&A Financial Regulations Optimization Analyst - Onsite Job SummaryGM Performance Power Units is seeking an analytical, curious, and highly motivated FP&A Analyst to join our fast-paced, technologically advanced organization.
This role is a unique blend of FP&A, business analysis, financial regulations, and strategic problem solving. The successful candidate will help maximize competitive advantage within the FIA Power Unit Financial Regulations by identifying, quantifying, tracking, and supporting delivery of cost cap optimization opportunities across the organization. This role will act as the analytical engine behind cost cap optimization initiatives, identifying opportunities where regulatory interpretation, operational understanding, and financial analysis can create value.
Financial Regulations optimization is a key pillar of GMPPU's financial strategy and competitive positioning. Success in this role will directly contribute to Power Unit performance and competitive advantage.
This role will support Finance Business Partners by performing detailed analysis, developing recommendations, monitoring implementation actions, and helping ensure opportunities are realized. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys digging into data, interpreting regulatory standards, solving ambiguous problems, understanding how a business operates, and turning complex regulations into actionable financial insights.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Regulations Optimization Analysis- Identify, evaluate, and quantify opportunities to optimize cost cap utilization while maintaining compliance with FIA regulations.
- Research, interpret, and apply FIA Financial Regulations and guidance to develop practical recommendations and optimization opportunities.
- Perform detailed reviews of spend categories including compensation, facilities, software, laptops, furniture, manufacturing costs, professional services, travel, relocation, and capital investments and develop and oversee delivery of recommendations for optimization.
- Analyze spending and activities to support Financial Regulations Manager making appropriate Included, Excluded, and Adjustment classifications.
- Support development of financial models and business cases evaluating optimization opportunities and alternative approaches.
- Benchmark historical classifications and identify opportunities for improvement.
Cross-Functional Business Partnering- Work closely with Finance Business Partners and the Financial Regulations Compliance team to support cost cap opportunities within assigned areas while helping drive execution, tracking, and realization of approved optimization initiatives.
- Conduct interviews, workshops, and information-gathering sessions to understand operational activities and determine appropriate cost cap treatment.
- Translate complex regulatory concepts into practical guidance for non-finance stakeholders.
Financial Regulations Governance & Compliance- Assist with interpretation and application of FIA Financial Regulations and related guidance.
- Support preparation of cost cap documentation, analyses, position papers, and supporting evidence.
- Develop and maintain cost cap reference guides, playbooks, and documentation.
- Help ensure financial records, purchase orders, business cases, and forecasts are appropriately coded and supported.
Reporting & Value Tracking- Develop and maintain trackers for cost cap opportunities, action plans, and realized benefits.
- Monitor status of optimization initiatives and provide regular reporting to Finance leadership.
- Quantify financial impact of proposed and implemented optimizations.
- Support cost cap forecasting, headroom analysis, and scenario planning.
- Deliver high-quality financial inputs and analysis for shareholder and Board materials, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and readiness for executive review.
Continuous Improvement- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, controls, and data quality.
- Partner with Business Intelligence and Finance teams to improve visibility into cost cap metrics and optimization opportunities.
- Support development of tools and reporting that allow proactive management of cost cap utilization and emerging opportunities.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-6 years of experience in FP&A, financial analysis, business analysis, accounting, consulting, auditing, or similar analytical roles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work through ambiguous situations.
- Experience working with large datasets and transforming data into actionable insights.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion.
- Self-started and resilient with an ability to convert an idea into deliverable action.
- Intellectual curiosity and a desire to understand how businesses operate.
- Comfortable working with incomplete information and developing recommendations in areas where clear precedent may not exist.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in manufacturing, automotive, engineering, motorsports, technology, aerospace, or other technical industries.
- Experience analyzing operational activities, spending, assets, or business processes to identify cost drivers, risks, optimization opportunities, or process improvements.
- Demonstrated curiosity and ability to learn complex regulations, policies, or business processes and translate them into practical recommendations.
- Exposure to regulatory or compliance-oriented environments.
- Experience with Power BI, Power Query, Tableau, SQL, Python, Alteryx, or similar analytical and reporting tools.
- Experience developing business cases or investment analyses.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as IFS, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
