Fleet Supervisor

Department of Transportation - Fleet Management

Full-time, Hourly

Hourly Range: $33.92 - $50.88

This Position is located in the Mower Shop: 10320 W. Watertown Plank Rd, Wauwatosa, WI 53226

Job Summary: The fleet supervisor provides direct supervision to service department personnel, schedules vehicle and equipment repairs and inspections, and communicates repair status to customers. The fleet supervisor is also responsible for employee scheduling, time-off requests, and cost-effective, ethical repair and maintenance of fleet assets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prioritize jobs and assign work to the appropriate staff based on skill set. Evaluate work requests and provide guidance to staff on cost effective repair approach. Determine what work can be performed more efficiently in-house vs externally (outside vendors). To be fully always engaged in user departments maintenance operations and attentive to their vehicle and equipment needs.
  • Input and update records and information in Milwaukee County's vehicle and equipment management system (Fleet Focus). Monitor and schedule preventative maintenance for all Milwaukee County vehicle and equipment assets.
  • Determine any repairs that may be covered under warranty. Schedule warranty repairs and recalls as needed. Log in-house warranty repairs into GM and Ford web portals for reimbursement.
  • Schedule and monitor spring and winter seasonal transition and preparation of equipment for user departments. Manage new vehicle and equipment setup/in-service for users.
  • Monitor and approve time off requests in Dayforce. Write employee evaluations. Maintain compliance with MCDOT work rules and County policies/procedures. Counsel and perform appropriate corrective action as needed.


Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences

  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • At least five (5) years of work experience in Professional automotive OR equipment repair and maintenance experience (i.e.. Vehicle/Equipment Repair or maintenance, Parts Manager, Service Writer, Parks or Public Works Supervisor or equivalent) required.
  • At least one (1) year or more of work experience in a Supervisory or Management role in a a Automotive/equipment, building, grounds, public works or manufacturing setting required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications required (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Excel)
  • Intermediate experience with fleet focus software and automotive web portals.
