Position Overview

Position Overview

Responsible for leading and executing fleet asset strategy under the direction of the Director of Fleet across a diverse portfolio of on-road and off-road heavy civil equipment. This role focuses on asset acquisition, lifecycle planning, valuation, location tracking, deployment, disposal, and understanding equipment build specifications across a broad range of fleet assets, ensuring optimal total cost of ownership and return on capital. The position serves as the system of record for where assets are, their status, and their financial performance, while also helping shape broader fleet decisions through data, market insight, and cross-functional collaboration. This role partners directly with the Director of Fleet to refine asset strategies, support capital planning, and drive innovation by evaluating alternative ownership models such as renting, leasing, and hybrid capital approaches. While procurement is a major focus, the role also requires broader strategic and operational judgment across the fleet portfolio, including the ability to work effectively with shop, maintenance, and compliance stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Leads procurement of equipment including negotiation of pricing, terms, warranties, parts agreements, financing structures, and build specifications
  • Execute lifecycle plans in alignment with strategy set by the Director of Fleet
  • Partner with the Director of Fleet to support development, refinement, and execution of broader fleet asset strategy
  • Support capital planning by developing data-driven recommendations on acquisitions, redeployments, and disposals
  • Maintain real-time visibility of asset whereabouts, project assignment, and operational status
  • Track and report asset status include active, idle, underutilized, in transit, and pending sale
  • Manage OEM and vendor relationships to maximize pricing, availability, service support, and market leverage
  • Evaluate, develop, and refine equipment build specifications across a broad range of fleet and heavy equipment assets
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend optimal ownership strategies including own, rent, lease, and RPO based on cost, utilization, and risk
  • Develop business cases supporting alternative acquisition and capital deployment strategies that improve cash flow and return on capital
  • Execute asset disposal strategies including auction, private sale, trade-in, and redeployment to optimize value and timing
  • Track total cost of ownership and identify underperforming assets for corrective action
  • Maintain accurate system data including cost, utilization, market value, lifecycle position, and ownership status
  • Produce reporting on fleet value, capital deployed, utilization gaps, asset performance, and market opportunities
  • Participate in and support the Capex Committee with recommendations that balance operational need, financial return, and fleet strategy
  • Coordinate with operations, finance, maintenance, shop, and compliance teams to ensure alignment across fleet decisions and business priorities
  • Other duties are assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with ability to interpret and understand ambiguous questions and information
  • Understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, build specifications across a broad range of fleet and heavy equipment assets
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; experience with fleet, ERP, or telematics systems preferred
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong systems discipline around asset tracking, reporting, and data integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across operations, shop, maintenance, and compliance functions while supporting broader fleet strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge traditional approaches and introduce innovative asset and capital solutions
  • Strong executive presence and ability to work in a partnership role supporting high-level operational and financial decision making
  • Requires experience with various computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Core, Eclipse, and Dynamix 365 or other) for managing fleet management activities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Fleet Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
  • 7+ years' experience in fleet, heavy equipment, procurement, asset lifecycle management, or related operational leadership
  • Experience evaluating and implementing alternative equipment strategies including rent, lease, RPO, and ownership models
  • Proven ability to negotiate high-value equipment purchases, leases, and vendor contracts

Salary Range
