About the Opportunity

The District of Lake Country's Lake Country Fire Department has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Fire and Rescue Technician (Firefighter & Driver-Operator) based in Lake Country, BC. This position's work hours are based on an average 42-hour work week, which may include day or night shifts on weekdays, weekends and/or statutory holidays.

Under the Direction of the Fire Chief or designate(s), the Fire Rescue Technician (Firefighter & Driver-Operator) works as a key member of their assigned team when responding to emergency incidents, non-emergency incidents, and public safety complaints as part of the composite firefighting force.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited:

• Provide technical services to key fire department program areas, such as:
  • Maintaining fire apparatus;
  • Maintaining fire equipment;
  • Maintaining fire facilities;
  • Occupational health and safety programs;
  • Firefighter training and education programs; and
  • Fire prevention programs and emergency response programs.
• Respond to inquiries from internal and external clients.

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have IFASC or ProBoard certified NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Level I and Level II; FireSmart 101 or equivalent; minimum of one year of municipal and wildland urban interface firefighting experience; minimum British Columbia EMA First Responder Level III with AED, CPR and Schedule II endorsements; minimum British Columbia III driver's license with air brake endorsement; responsible driving record with no prohibition and no more than 6 points in the past 3 years.

At the time of application or prior to an offer, you must attain a vulnerable sector criminal record check to meet British Columbia EMA licensing board requirements; successfully complete a Firefighter Applicant Physical Aptitude Evaluation or equivalent; completion of a NFPA Candidate Medical Assessment or equivalent.

You are physically fit and have the ability and willingness to work under physically arduous conditions, including hazardous locations, extreme heights, and confined spaces.
