Financial Controller

About the Role

The Controller manages the day-to-day financial operation of Downtown FabWorks. They lead and manage the organization's accounting and financial functions through preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial reports that enable the organization to make sound business decisions, in addition to ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. The role requires an in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), strong attention to detail, and industry regulations and trends. The position reports to the President of Downtown FabWorks.

Primary Responsibilities

Functions as the team leader of the Downtown FabWorks accounting and financial reporting:
  • Manage all aspects of the organization's accounting processes, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, such as balance sheets and income statements, following GAAP standards
  • Manage monthly departmental budgets in conjunction with the department heads
  • Utilize Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting process to ensure that we maintain the correct visibility, and prevent overbillings and underbillings and earned revenue
  • Manage project cashflow in conjunction with our project managers
  • Analyze financial data and prepare reports for senior management
  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure compliance with overall organization policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain internal control systems to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting
  • Identify areas of improvement in the accounting process and make appropriate recommendations
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve financial operations' overall efficiency and effectiveness
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Guide complex transactions, including review of contracts before execution
  • Assist in evaluating the financial impact of business initiatives and investments and contribute to long-term financial planning and growth strategies.
  • Identify and communicate trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenue and expenses

Anticipated Schedule Ratio: 90% in-person, 10% remote

  • Team leader - This position is responsible for managing several team members, each with their own projects, as well as assistants to delegate workload to. The person in this position needs to have strong leadership skills, be able to coach the team through troubleshooting scenarios, and develop trust within the organization.
  • Problem Solving - This is a growing business and there are always unforeseen challenges. Being able to troubleshoot and communicate through a problem with peers is critical toward this role.
  • Efficient Operator - Understands the value of everyone's time. The person who fills this position needs to make sure that goals are achieved in a timely manner and manages their workflow accordingly.
  • Organized and Able to Scale - Understands the importance of administrative organization, including file and document management, time management, and software to achieve administrative scale.
  • Emotional intelligence - Has the ability to read people, adapt your approach, and work effectively with a diverse team of skilled craftspeople and creative professionals.


Technical & Software Skills: The person in this position needs to be well-versed in the following software:
  • NetSuite, Sage, BambooHR, QuickBooks and other accounting software
  • Project management software, Asana preferred.
  • Excel
  • Google Drive
  • Slack
  • Time management software, including Google Calendar and all of its functionality


Knowledge & Skills
  • A minimum of 7-10 years experience in small business accounting with 3-5 years experience as a Controller or Senior Accountant
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and project management methodologies.
  • Ability to develop and maintain KPI's and metric tracking in the project management department
  • Experience with project financial planning and project cash flow management.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher


Compensation:
  • $90,000 - $120,000 annual salary based on experience and fit

Work Schedule & Travel

This is a full-time, salaried exempt in-person position based out of our New Orleans office. Travel may be required.
