  • Vacation Home/Residential/Renovation construction accounting
  • Percentage-of-completion accounting & WIP schedules
  • Experience with Insurance claims receivables
  • Experience with Construction loan draws
  • Familiarity with licensing, permitting, and multi-state setup

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations of a growing portfolio of professional service businesses. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will lead the day-to-day accounting function, strengthen internal controls, improve financial reporting processes, and help scale the finance organization as the business continues to grow through both organic expansion and acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Close Process:
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process across multiple operating companies.
  • Prepare and review GAAP-compliant financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting across all business units.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances.
  • Develop reporting packages for executive leadership and ownership.

Accounting Operations:
  • Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet support schedules.
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense classification.
  • Manage intercompany transactions and consolidations across multiple entities.
  • Maintain an accurate chart of accounts and accounting policies.

Internal Controls & Compliance:
  • Design, implement, and monitor internal accounting controls.
  • Develop standardized accounting procedures and documentation.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement reviews or audits.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist with banking, insurance, and regulatory reporting requirements.

Leadership & Team Development:
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, including Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants, AP, and AR personnel.
  • Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop accounting talent as the organization grows.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service.

Systems & Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting processes.
  • Lead ERP enhancements, accounting system implementations, and workflow improvements.
  • Improve month-end close timelines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Partner with operations to improve financial visibility and reporting.

Business Partnership:
  • Support budgeting and forecasting efforts with the FP&A team.
  • Provide financial insights to business leaders and department managers.
  • Assist with acquisitions, due diligence, purchase accounting, and post-acquisition integrations.
  • Support special projects initiated by executive leadership.


Qualifications, Skills, & Competencies:
  • Required
    • Construction accounting experience (job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition).
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
    • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
    • 3+ years managing an accounting team.
    • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
    • Experience preparing consolidated financial statements.
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
    • Experience with ERP systems (ideally, Sage Intacct)
  • Preferred
    • CPA designation strongly preferred.
    • Experience in professional services, legal, construction, real estate, or other project-based businesses.
    • Multi-entity accounting experience.
    • Real estate brokerage accounting experience (commission tracking, trust/escrow management).
    • Experience with mergers and acquisitions.
    • Public accounting background.
    • Experience improving accounting processes within high-growth organizations.
