Position Summary

A growing steel fabrication company in the construction industry based in Nashville, TN is seeking a Financial Analyst - Construction to join their team. Reporting to the Owner and Fractional CFO, this role is built for a construction accounting professional who is equally comfortable owning the day-to-day accounting and thinking analytically about what the numbers mean for the business. You will be the financial backbone of the operation, working closely with project managers and operations to track costs, analyze margins, and help drive smart decisions. This role carries a clear path toward Controller for the right candidate.

Responsibilities
  • Own day-to-day accounting operations including AP/AR, month-end close, general ledger, compliance, and payroll coordination
  • Manage WIP and POC accounting including all related journal entries and schedules
  • Perform job costing and project margin analysis, connecting estimating-to-actual data back to project managers and operations teams
  • Track and analyze labor and equipment costs, identifying and clearly communicating variances
  • Build and maintain 60-90 day cash flow forecasts to support operational planning
  • Produce financial reporting that field and project leaders can actually use, going beyond back-office outputs to tell the story behind the numbers
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations and project management as a trusted business partner
  • Manage the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison to the external CPA firm
  • Support continuous improvement of financial controls, processes, and reporting

Required Qualifications
  • Solid construction accounting background with hands-on experience in WIP and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and communicate it clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • Comfortable owning the full accounting function including close, compliance, and audit readiness
  • High proficiency in Excel
  • Business-partnering mindset with a desire to be useful to operations, not just accurate in a back office
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with project managers and field teams
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable moving quickly in a growing environment
  • Growth mindset with ambition to develop into a Controller-level role over time

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Procore, Viewpoint, or similar construction accounting platforms
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Familiarity with AIA billing and subcontractor management
  • Power BI or other data visualization experience a plus
