The salary range for this position is:
  • Recruitment range: $76,643 to $84,502. Starting salary is determined in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: Up to $99,674. Progression beyond the recruitment range is available through annual performance increases, in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.


Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Finance & Administration, the Accountant provides professional financial, budgeting, and accounting support for Facilities Management operations and capital projects. The position is responsible for financial analysis, forecasting, budget development and monitoring, capital project accounting, and financial reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making. The Accountant ensures that financial transactions and project expenditures are accurately recorded, comply with university policies, funding agreements, and applicable accounting standards, and are supported by appropriate documentation.

Objectives:
  • Works closely with directors, managers, and project managers to monitor operating and capital budgets, analyze variances, forecast expenditures, and provide timely financial information that supports effective planning and resource allocation.
  • Identifies financial risks, investigates discrepancies and anomalies, develops reporting solutions, and provides recommendations to improve financial oversight and decision-making.
  • Provides technical accounting expertise and guidance to Facilities Management by reviewing journal entries, advising on appropriate accounting treatment, supporting year-end processes, and contributing to internal and external audits


Job Requirements

This position requires an undergraduate degree and the pre-requisites towards an accounting designation (CPA), with an expectation that the designation will be completed within a reasonable timeframe (3-4 years), plus:
  • Three years of pre-designation, professional accounting experience and applied knowledge of generally accepted accounting principle with emphasis on knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
  • Experience in a large, diverse and sophisticated accounting environment.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
