DescriptionIn this role, you'll join a dedicated team and supervise individuals responsible for preparing accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
As our chief accountant, you will assist the VP of Finance in managing all financial accounting, internal controls, and budgeting operations to ensure the fiscal health and stability of one of the largest nonprofits in northeastern Wisconsin.
Key Responsibilities: - Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high performing staff.
- Review and evaluate staff performance for four positions within the team covering accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close activities and schedules to ensure accurate financial reporting and timely completion of deliverables.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and other financial transactions while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Review internal financial statements for accuracy and readiness for final presentation.
- Support the annual independent audit and 990 preparation by coordinating requests, preparing documentation, and facilitating information gathering.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting & finance, including 3+ years in a supervisory role.
- Experience with nonprofit fund accounting.
- Previous leadership experience developing and managing a finance team.
- Strong ability to delegate to and motivate team members.
- Proven project management skills and advanced experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to prepare financial statements for leadership, governance, and outside agencies.
