Finance Director
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Finance Director is responsible for the overall financial management, planning, reporting, compliance, and accountability of the organization. This role plays a key leadership function in ensuring the long-term financial sustainability and integrity of DNFC.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
- Oversee all financial operations, accounting systems, and internal controls
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements
- Lead organizational budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Monitor program budgets, expenditures, and funding agreements
- Coordinate annual audits and ensure compliance with funding requirements
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational decision-making
- Present financial reports to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee
- Support organizational planning, policy development, and strategic initiatives
- Oversee payroll processes and financial management systems
- Ensure accurate record keeping and financial documentation
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in financial management, accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial roles
- Experience in monitoring budgets, preparing financial reports, and financial statements
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial management practices
- Proficiency with accounting software, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
- Valid Criminal Record Check (or ability to obtain)
- Preferred:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- Experience in a senior financial leadership or management role
- Experience supervising staff and providing leadership to teams
- Experience coordinating audits and working with auditors
- Experience developing and monitoring complex organizational and program budgets
- Knowledge of governance practices and reporting to Boards of Directors
- Experience with financial reporting to multiple funding agencies
- Assets:
- Experience working in a non-profit, Indigenous organization, Friendship Centre, or government-funded environment
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, communities, and traditions
- Understanding of funding agreements and compliance requirements related to Indigenous and non-profit programming
- Experience with Sage, QuickBooks, or other non-profit accounting software
- Experience supporting strategic planning and organizational growth initiatives
- Indigenous language skills
- Knowledge of grant management and funding proposal budgeting
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Primarily office-based environment with extended periods of sitting and computer use
- Occasional attendance at Board meetings, committee meetings, or organizational events outside regular business hours
- Minimal travel may be required for training, meetings, conferences, or organizational business
