The Finance Director provides leadership and oversight of the accounting and financial operations for the organization and provides direct assistance to the Chief Financial Officer and other Executive Team Leaders as needed.

  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, procurement related activities, monthly/annual close processes, corporate credit card program, and revenue cycle.
  • Oversee and assist where necessary in timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit standards.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies to safeguard assets.
  • Oversee cash flow and balance forecasts.
  • Maintain and assist with organizational banking relationships and functions within the banking system.
  • Oversee financial forecasts and/or budgeting.
  • Oversee compliance with any federal, state, or local funding, including grants.
  • Support the organization Medicaid prospective payment system (PPS) reporting and cost report preparation.
  • Oversee readiness for site reviews and funding audits.
  • Oversee the annual financial audit, Single Audit (if applicable) and the Form 990 and all compliance.
  • Supervise and mentor finance staff.
  • Attend and participate in management meetings as requested.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical financial stewardship.
  • Provide the CFO with financial modeling and analysis of current and future projects or expansion.
  • Support the CFO in reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Cost Reporting for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). Familiarize with existing and changing reporting requirements of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Annual preparation of the cost report and supplemental schedules.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversee the selection, workflow, training, and development of department staff.
  • Encourage individual employee development and the development of a cross-functional team.
  • Conduct ongoing performance management and complete employee evaluations as required. Assist employees with improving performance and developing goals.
  • Approve any staff mileage requests, timesheets, and PTO requests in a timely manner.
  • Cultivate, maintain, and enhance intradepartmental relationships.

Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, software, and systems.
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP
  • Knowledge of Federal Grants & Contract requirements
  • Experience coordinating annual audits/budgets, forecasting, and maintaining financial records/statements.
  • Experience with Health Record systems (EHR).
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, strongly preferred
  • Experience with Medicaid and cost reporting
