Summary

WaterConnect is seeking a meticulous, self-motivated Finance and Accounting Manager to safeguard and strengthen the financial foundation of a high-impact, fast-growing infrastructure investment platform. This is an opportunity to join a startup company backed by a larger global group, working at the intersection of treasury, accounting, and reporting for a mission-driven organization.

The Finance and Accounting Manager oversees WaterConnect's internal financial operations, ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant management of the organization's finances. This role is responsible for treasury and liquidity management, vendor and banking relationships, and financial reporting. It also oversees sound accounting procedures and controls, manages the day-to-day and period-end close process, and ensures compliance with applicable accounting and tax regulations.

Working closely with Water.org's finance team, the Finance and Accounting Manager will play a key role in financial statement consolidation and in maintaining the financial integrity that supports WaterConnect's mission. The role offers significant visibility, a direct line to management, and the chance to grow with the company.

Job Responsibilities

Internal Financial Services
  • Oversee bank accounts and payments to vendors, projects, intercompanies, payroll, and reimbursements
  • Oversee liquidity management and reserve balances, including cash flow monitoring and forecasting
  • Manage relationships with banking partners, auditors, and tax advisors
  • Prepare and deliver financial reports and forecasts for management, the parent company, and governing bodies

Accounting and Controls
  • Oversee accounting, including day-to-day and period-end closing processes, in partnership with a third-party accounting provider
  • Establish and enforce proper finance and accounting procedures and controls, including capitalization of project expenses
  • Lead aspects of finance department collaboration with the parent company, including consolidation
  • Prepare annual tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable accounting and tax regulations
  • Support the annual external audit process and respond to auditor requests
  • Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances to support accurate consolidation

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5 or more years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, including treasury, financial reporting, and the accounting close process
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CA, ACCA) or equivalent demonstrated expertise
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS, with experience supporting multi-entity or parent-subsidiary consolidation
  • Experience managing banking relationships, treasury operations, and liquidity or cash management
  • Experience working with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies; familiarity with international tax compliance considerations
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and enforce sound accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Proficiency with accounting software or ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a small, virtual team in a hands-on role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across global, multicultural teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental impact
  • Proficient (written and verbal) in English

Preferred:
  • Experience in infrastructure finance
  • Experience with international transactions, multi-currency accounting, and reporting across international entities

Physical Requirements:

Role includes regular online collaboration across time zones. Colleagues, partners, and service providers are based in the Americas, Africa, India, and East Asia. While the role is fully remote, to ensure real-time overlap with the President and Water.org's finance team during core business hours, we require candidates to be based in the Eastern or Central time zone. This role involves extended periods of sitting and reaching. This role requires the ability to see, talk, and hear. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.

Expected pay range is $80,000 to 110,000 per year.
