Overview

 

The Field Service Engineer is a customer-facing technical expert responsible for installing, servicing, troubleshooting, calibrating, upgrading, and supporting MPI wax injection and automation equipment used in the Investment Casting Industry. The role combines hands-on field service, remote diagnostics, technical training, and customer consultation.

This position is ideal for a technically strong, self-directed problem solver who enjoys working directly with customers and equipment, traveling to job sites, and partnering with internal teams to deliver practical solutions.

Responsibilities What You’ll Do
  • Serve as a primary technical contact between customers and MPI for service-related needs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, temperature-control, and automation systems.
  • Perform machine installations, repairs, preventive maintenance, calibrations, upgrades, and field modifications.
  • Provide remote technical support using TeamViewer and other connectivity tools.
  • Travel to customer sites and provide hands-on support to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
  • Interpret electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics, machine bills of material, and technical specifications.
  • Support automation systems, including robotic teach-point setup and related components.
  • Create clear, step-by-step procedures for troubleshooting, operation, and customer training.
  • Train customers and conduct technical training sessions as needed.
  • Evaluate customer processes and recommend ways to improve equipment utilization, efficiency, and value.
  • Document service activities through field service reports and MPI’s ERP system.
  • Maintain accurate accountability of parts and components used during service work.
  • Partner with Engineering on technical issues and solution development; communicate quality concerns through the appropriate channels.
  • Support Sales with technical inquiries and assist with Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing when requested.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve product efficiency, and eliminate waste.
  • Participate in MPI Lean initiatives and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Follow company policies, travel guidelines, safety requirements, and applicable OSHA practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

 

Work Environment & Travel
  • Approximately 75% national and international travel with the remaining time providing factory-based support.
  • Customer-site work may include weekend stays and travel at varying times to meet customer needs.
  • Industrial/production environment requiring safe work practices and OSHA compliance.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.; moving heavier equipment, up to 1,000 lbs., with proper equipment.
  • Work is focused on Investment Casting applications, including wax room injection, assembly, and automation.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with customers whose primary language may not be English.

  • Experience with ERP systems; Epicor experience is a plus.

  • Valid driver’s license and current U.S. passport with the ability to travel internationally.
  • ITAR contracts with our customers require all MPI staff to be US citizens.
Education & Experience
  • Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, and Windows-based systems.
  • Automation and 6-axis robotics experience is a plus.
