DESCRIPTIONThe Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health within the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego aims to eliminate the burdens of infectious diseases and health disparities by delivering outstanding patient care, conducting world-class multidisciplinary healthresearch, directing the institutional response to antimicrobial resistance, preventable healthcare associated infections, and emerging pathogens, and offering leadership, consultation and training on global public health, gender equity, microbiology, and infectious diseasestopics.
Under direct supervision of senior researchers, candidate will help develop and implement research study protocols. Will assist with programming instruments in REDCap, writing and tracking materials for IRB submissions, and recruiting study participants. Will perform screening procedures, collect informed consent, and conduct data collection via participant surveys/interviews. Will assist with creating reports on recruitment and enrollment for investigators and granting institutions. Will coordinate with other study staff to organize team meetings, purchase human subjects compensation and field research materials, provide routine updates to senior staff, and maintain accurate research records.
Under direct guidance of senior researcher, applies acquired skills and knowledge of applicable research discipline to support field research projects of small to medium size and intermediate scope and complexity, including but not limited to research in environmental, public health, social or biological science disciplines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Four years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area.
- Two (2) or more years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to communicate effectively with senior staff (PI, Co-Is, CRC), fellow research associates, interns, program officials, and external collaborators.
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, screening, consenting, and enrolling new research participants.
- Experience using REDCap, Qualtrics, Excel, Word, Kuali, Concur, Ripple/EnrollNow, and Adobe.
- Demonstrated experience writing, revising, submitting, and tracking research materials for approval by an Institutional Review Board via Kuali.
- Working knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility. Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to policies governing research ethics, conflict of interest, privacy and confidentiality, and human subjects' protections as specified by relevant funding and regulatory/oversight entities such as NIH, CDC, FDA, state and local governments, University of California, Institutional Review Board, etc.
- Working knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and / or operations being conducted at field / remote sites. Must possess theoretical understanding of health inequities, stigma, and sociocultural barriers relating to public health and access to care.
- Working knowledge of local customs and operations at field / remote sites.
- Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners.
- Demonstrates ability to work with a team, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates ability to work in ambiguous conditions.
- Proficient research and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated experience using REDCap and Qualtrics to design and program new data collection instruments. Demonstrated experience using REDCap and Qualtrics for qualitative and quantitative data collection.
- Demonstrated expertise in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for tracking completion of research activities, organization and maintenance of data, and preparation and presentation of reports.
- Demonstrated experience in completing various research project support tasks such as ordering and dispensing human subjects compensation, ordering supplies, printing materials, processing travel requests, reimbursements, scheduling, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Fluency in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. May require working some evenings/weekends.
- May require travel within Southern California to attend recruitment and enrollment events and meetings with shareholders and community partners.
