Full Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Field Manager (CXQC) leads commissioning and quality control on behalf of Managed Services for a data center build, verifying systems are installed, tested, and turned over to operational standards. Construction's job is done when the building is built; this role's job is done when operations can run it - and the gap between those two is exactly what CXQC exists to close.
Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:
Commissioning Program Leadership
Own site execution of the Level 1-5 commissioning program: Cx schedule development with the Planner/Scheduler, script and procedure review, prerequisite verification, test witnessing coordination, and daily Cx execution management across electrical, mechanical, and controls systems.
SME Team Coordination
Direct the day-to-day work of the Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls SMEs: witness assignments, design-review priorities, and issue ownership - one coordinated operations voice into the project rather than three.
Quality Control
Enforce installation quality standards and hold points with construction: QC walkdowns at defined milestones, installation verification against IFC and vendor requirements, and a managed Cx/QC issues log with aging discipline and closure verification.
Integrated Systems Testing
Lead planning and execution of integrated systems testing: failure scenarios, pull-the-plug sequences, and full-load validation - with utility, vendor, and operations participation coordinated in advance and results documented to acceptance criteria.
Turnover to Operations
Verify turnover packages meet Managed Services standards: test records, settings files, O&Ms, as-builts, training completion, spare parts, and maintenance-program inputs. Run system-by-system turnover acceptance and drive open items to zero before operational handover.
Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
Coordinate commissioning agents, NETA firms, OEM technicians, trade partners, and the construction team; report Cx progress, risks, and readiness to project leadership and Managed Services with equal candor.
ABOUT YOU
- What we're looking for:
- 7+ years in data center or mission-critical commissioning, quality, or critical facilities leadership roles.
- Command of Level 1-5 commissioning processes, integrated systems testing design, and turnover documentation standards.
- Cross-system fluency: electrical (switchgear, generators, UPS), mechanical (chilled water, air/liquid cooling), and BMS/EPMS.
- Experience directing commissioning agents, NETA testing firms, and OEM field service teams.
- QC program experience with construction hold points and installation verification.
- Operations-first judgment - you accept systems on behalf of the people who will run them at 3 a.m.
- Strong issue-management and reporting discipline; the Cx log is current or the day isn't over.
- CxA, CCP, or equivalent commissioning credential a plus; trade or engineering background welcome.
- Full-time on-site role through commissioning and stabilization.
