This Opportunity

WSP has immediate openings for Field Biologists/Environmental Monitors to support multiple biological surveys and environmental compliance projects planned in New York State. This is a full-time temporary hourly position. Candidates local to New York are ideal due to work location and scheduling needs, but all qualified applicants will be considered. The expectation is that this position will require 40 hours per week but more could be available based on project needs.
Your Impact
  • Assist with multiple biological field surveys and environmental compliance tasks, including:
  • Conduct environmental management and construction plan (EM & CP) reviews for support on utility transmission projects.
  • Perform site visits to project locations with construction managers to become familiar with project needs.
  • Record field data accurately using standardized biological field forms, including species observations, habitat characteristics, and environmental conditions
  • Follow established survey protocols and contribute to high quality data collection
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary field team
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a closely related field
  • 2+ years of prior environmental monitoring or utility permitting experience
  • Self motivated, physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions and established protocols
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey scientific information to both technical and non technical audiences
  • Proficient self leadership with attention to detail, multi tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Basic proficiency with business writing, GPS units, mobile data collection tools, and standard office software
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
  • Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek, depending on project needs
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience conducting biological surveys in New York or the surrounding region
  • Familiarity with regional flora and fauna, including identification of special status species
  • Experience with wetland delineations, avian surveys, herpetological surveys, or other specialized biological field methods a plus
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., ESA, MBTA, Clean Water Act).

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $38 - $50/hour
