Job Announcement *This position includes a signing bonus of $2,500 (full-time) for new county hires. ABOUT THIS POSITIONThe Adult and Aging Division within our department welcomes applicants interested in this position located in the Reston Adult Services Unit.
- Provides clinical supervision to staff to include Family Safety Practitioners assigned to adult services, administrative support positions, and when needed, adult protective services, to ensure work is in compliance with local, state, and federal laws, and procedures.
- Provides direct supervision and clinical guidance to staff in the Reston unit, including those conducting home-based care assessments, Long-term Services and Supports screenings, long-term care Medicaid eligibility determinations and Assisted Living Facility (ALF) assessments.
- Supervises two specialized liaison positions for the Medical Respite Program.
- Serves as the lead for communication with Housing, Health Department, shelter staff, and the home health vendor involved in the Medical Respite program.
- Serves as the HMIS Superuser, tracking data and reports and writing local policy related to the Medical Respite Program.
- Guides, trains, and mentors new and established staff, including onboarding, ongoing coaching, and professional development; provides mentorship to other supervisors as needed.
- Oversees the quality and accuracy of ALF and LTC assessments, manages purchase orders, and ensures client records meet regulatory standards.
- Responds to client and community concerns as an agency representative and provides backup coverage for field assessments and home visits when necessary.
- Work in collaboration with other Adult Services Supervisors to include duties such as interpreting state policy and writing local policy as it pertains to LTSS Screenings, Assisted Living Facility assessments and Home Care determination.
- Provides guidance and training regarding policy and best practices related to the delivery of case management, home care services, CCC Plus screenings, Assisted Living Facility/ Auxiliary Grant assessments and Long-term Care Medicaid.
- Provides onboarding of new staff as well as ongoing coaching for established unit members.
- Provides back up support to unit staff to include conducting home and field visits and transport of clients using a vehicle.
- Works collaboratively across the division and with the community and other county agencies to ensure holistic and effective service delivery.
- Collaborates across the division and with the community to promote holistic, client-centered service delivery and to support the mission and goals of DFS.
- Provides back up coverage to the assistant program manager as needed and performs other duties in support of the DFS mission, goals, and objectives.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, methods and problems of organization and management;
- Extensive knowledge of current social service problems and methods/approaches to address them;
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of social work and casework supervision;
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of effective supervision; of policies, procedures and regulations relating to the various direct service programs;
- Knowledge of business process re-design methodologies;
- Knowledge of treatment interventions and approaches;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a human services field
OR minimum of a bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia).
In order to be evaluated for positions in the Family Services Occupational Group, individuals who do not meet the degree requirement at the time of application for employment must be in their last semester of a degree program that will meet the requirements listed above.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- The appointee to this position will be required to complete a Criminal background check, Child Protective Services check, Driving Record Check, and Credit check to the satisfaction of the employer.
- Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Requires being part of an on-call rotation that includes evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday hours which may require immediate response into the field
- This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
BONUS ELIGIBILITY:Positions within this classification that are general merit may be eligible for a one-time hiring incentive bonus for new county employees only. This bonus program requires a signed payback agreement between the department and employee.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Master's degree in social work (MSW) or a related human services degree
- At least three (3) years of experience in Social Services, Human Services, or related field
- Supervisory experience managing and reviewing the work of less experienced staff
- At least 3 years of experience with community-based, long term care Medicaid, and long-term care services.
- At least 2 years of experience in social services work in the following areas: Adult Protective Services, Adult Foster Care, Assisted Living Facility Placements, Drug and Alcohol, Homeless Services and Shelters Systems, Home and Community Based Services (CCC+ assessments), Housing, Intellectual Disabilities, Mental Health, Nursing Home Placement, Older Adults, and Physical Disabilities.
- Advanced computer and software skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, electronic case management systems, virtual meetings, electronic signing/exchanging of required forms, and electronic medical records system.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to navigate through and make decisions in stressful and crisis situations Ability to use automated technology. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and make use of personal vehicle. Sufficiently mobile to travel outside the office for client contact, court appearances, community events, and to conduct assessments and investigations of allegations of potential abuse and neglect. Work requires performing tasks with risks of secondary traumatic stress (STS). All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
