Position Information

Position Title
Faculty (Program Head), Aviation

Position Summary

BCIT's School of Transportation, Aviation division is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Faculty. This Faculty will serve as Program Head for the Bachelor of Technology in Technology Management (part time) program and teach students within the program. The Faculty position has an indefinite term, and the Program Head responsibilities will be assumed by the successful candidate for a three-year term with the potential for renewal.

The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to education and interacting with students and Flexible Learning faculty, an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and an interest in developing and delivering quality curriculum.

Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Encourages a positive work and learning environment.
  • Fosters teamwork within the program area.
  • Participates in program faculty/staff hiring and orientation.
  • Addresses student academic issues and provides guidance as appropriate.
  • Leads team of Flexible Learning sessional faculty in the program
  • Coordinates and supervises administrative activities related to the academic and operational functions of the Program
  • Advises and participates in student recruitment and student retention.
  • Liaises with industry and/or agencies to ensure the program gains recognition within the industry and to see that the curriculum reflects current industry practices.
  • Works with Program Advisory Committee members and Program Advisory Committee Chair to align program with evolving management needs of industry
  • Performs other related work as may be required in the operation of the program.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum five years of current and applied experience in the technology and/or applied engineering sector; local Canadian experience is an asset. 10-years of experience preferred.
  • Relevant bachelor's degree in engineering, technology or related technology discipline.
  • Experience in a technology environment at a senior management level.
  • Experience developing training programs and project management
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making, communication skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Previous teaching and/or educational experience is an asset. Experience and knowledge of instructional delivery skills

Salary Range
Salary range: $69,006 - $120,460 per annum.

Additional Salary Information

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
