Facilities Technician II / Senior Facilities Technician
The City of Petaluma is seeking a dedicated, facility maintenance professional to fill a current vacancy at the Facilities Technician II orSenior Facilities Technician level, depending on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. These positions typically work a 4/10 schedule; however, schedules can vary based upon staffing needs. Incumbents in these positions may be required to work on-call, overtime, and/or holidays, as needed. This recruitment may also be used to fill additional vacancies that may occur within the next twelve months.
SALARY AND BENEFITS PACKAGE

• SALARY RANGE:
  • Facilities Technician II: $88.129.60 - $107,140.80 annually (+2% COLA in July 2027)
  • Senior Facilities Technician: $96,740.80 - $117,624.00 annually (+2% COLA in July 2027)

Facilities Technician II
Summary
Perform a variety of highly skilled technical work in the building trades' in the repair, maintenance, and alteration of City buildings and facilities.

Class Characteristics
General supervision is provided by a higher-level supervisor or manager; responsibilities may include indirect supervision of support staff. This is the journey-level class of the Facilities Technician series. Incumbents work under general supervision and are fully competent to perform the full range of facilities technical duties.
Senior Facilities Technician
Summary
Lead and perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled tasks at a journeyman or higher skill level pertaining to the installation, maintenance, repair, and service of the electrical and mechanical equipment, facility infrastructure, structures, and roofs; and provide technical support to City project and program managers.

Class Characteristics
This is the advanced journey level and lead for the skilled trade functions. Direction is provided by a higher-level supervisor or manager. This class can be distinguished from the Facility Maintenance I/II by its lead worker role and its responsibility for providing technical expertise and troubleshooting regarding the most complex maintenance and repair issues, lead work and training of staff in lower classifications.

Qualifications
Facilities Technician II

Knowledge of:

• Standard methods, materials, and equipment used in one or more of the building trades.
• Applicable building codes and ordinances.
• Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
• Basic mathematics used in the course of the position.
• Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Education and Experience:

Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:

Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Advanced training in public facilities maintenance and operations, construction technology, skilled crafts, or other specialty specifically relevant to the area of assignment is highly desirable.
Experience:

In addition to the above, two years of experience in HVAC, carpentry, electrical, or plumbing and the ability to troubleshoot various building maintenance problems at a level equivalent to the Facilities Technician I class.
Certifications/Licenses:

• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.
• A California Contractors License C10, C20 or the IBEW Apprenticeship Certificate and EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery certification is highly desirable.

Senior Facilities Technician
Knowledge of:

• Typical operations, services, and activities within city facilities.
• Principles, methods, materials, and tools employed in the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, HVAC, electrical, and facility mechanical equipment and structures.
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in maintenance work.
• Basic plumbing and electrical principles.
• Practices and techniques of metal cutting and welding.
• Principles and practices of employee supervision, leadership, and training.
• Report writing and records maintenance.
• Standard principles and practices of purchasing and inventory control.
• Methods and techniques of developing and implementing a preventive and predictive maintenance program.
• Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Education and Experience:

Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:

Equivalent to graduation from high school; additional technical or college-level course work is highly desirable.
Experience:

Five years of increasingly responsible experience performing maintenance, construction, and repair duties.
Certifications/Licenses:

• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.
• Possession of an EPA Universal Refrigerant recovery license.
• Possession of a California Contractor's C-10 Electrical License or equivalent union or state document is desirable.
• Possession of a California Contractor's C-20 HVAC license or equivalent union or state document is desirable.
• Possession of a California Contractor's "B" General Contractor's License is desirable.

Additional Requirements:

May be required to work on-call.

May be required to work overtime as needed.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to perform heavy physical labor, including having sufficient strength to lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 90 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud depending on working conditions.
