  • Facilitate meetings to report project status and communicate with management;
  • Troubleshoot existing structures and infrastructure.

Overview

Introduction

The Groton Facilities Engineering department is comprised of Engineers, Project Managers and Designers.  We are seeking a seasoned project manager with engineers’ acumen to develop and execute construction projects for the 110+ year old Groton shipyard and local sites. 

 

General

The candidate must be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work independently and seek guidance when needed.  Candidate must establish a working relationship with facilities engineers, project managers, trade personnel, vendors, management, Building Officials and our Customer.  Aptitude to read, understand and perform duties in compliance with the many EB procedures, policies and requirements are required. 

 

Safety

Knowledge and application of OSHA 1910, 1915 and 1926 minimum requirements to enable adherence to both Electric Boat’s: Safety Manual and Contractor Safety, Health, and Regulations Manual.

 

Project Management

Candidate will be responsible for oversight of day-to-day construction activities and the successful execution of multiple simultaneous projects and trouble shooting of the existing structures and infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities include engineering and developing the scope of work, preparing bid documents, vendor selection, securing funding, preparing purchase requisitions, project documents and management of the holistic project.

 

Additional responsibilities include maintaining project quality, schedule, ROM estimate, budget, contract requirements, subcontractors’ compliance, suppliers, estimates, documentation, close out, turnover and other duties required to execute.  Candidate will be responsible for oversight of day-to-day construction activities and the successful execution of multiple simultaneous projects.

 

Candidate must possess excellent written and communication skills to effectively run meetings and report project status of field and financials to management and senior leadership. 

 

Engineering

Candidate should be well experienced as this position requires cross function, multi-discipline skills, including knowledge of:

  • Architectural: life safety, building envelopes, roofs and FFE
  • Civil / Structural: docks, marine structures, underground utilities, roadways, rails (cranes and freight)
  • Mechanical:
    • Fluid based systems: fire protection, potable and sanitary sewage
    • Compressed air: low pressure and high pressure
    • Compressed gas systems: nitrogen, argon, oxygen and propane
    • Boiler and steam systems: commercial, industrial, land-based steaming and saltwater cooling
    • Water purification plants
    • Waste water treatment plant
  • HVAC: commercial, industrial and submarine support
  • Electrical: distribution systems up to 34.5 kV, including substations, switchgear, transformers and underground duct banks
  • All Critical Systems which support the Groton shipyard
Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree (or higher) in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture
  • 2+ years of experience in facilities engineering, plant engineering or construction

Preferred:

  • BS (or higher) in Architecture or Construction Management
  • BS (or higher) in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering or construction project management
  • 3+ years of experience in leadership positions in an engineering or project management environment
  • Knowledge of State and Local Building Use and Codes
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Connecticut
  • Architect License in Connecticut
  • Experience with software and their application: CMMS (Corrigo), Procurement (Oracle) and Construction Management (Procore)
Skills
  • This position requires cross function, multi-discipline skills, including knowledge of architectural, building envelope, civil, structural, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing disciplines.
  • Candidate must possess a questioning attitude and desire to continue to learn the disciplines.
  • Candidate must possess excellent written and communication skills.
  • Candidate will interface with Naval oversight and local Building Officials.
  • Candidate must be self-motivating, be able to work independently, possess good communications skills and be proficient technically.
  • Candidate must be organized and be able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with Microsoft: Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Word.
  • Experience with CMMS (Corrigo), Procurement (Oracle), Construction Management Software (Procore).
