PositionRenton Technical College is seeking a dedicated
Facilities and Grounds Services Director to oversee the daily operations of our campus facilities and grounds. The Director will manage the care of the main campus and satellite locations. This includes the management of capital projects, grounds maintenance, building maintenance and repair, environmental and hazardous waste, waste management and recycling, energy conservation, plant safety, and the maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire alarm, and elevator systems. The Facilities & Grounds Services Director will supervise custodial, grounds, maintenance, and facilities staff ensuring operational success.
The Facilities and Grounds Services Director is a full-time and exempt position reporting directly to the Vice President of Administration & Finance.
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $125,000 annually. Salary placement will be based on applicable experience. The priority consideration date for applications is August 9, 2026. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include - Responsible for the proper care and safety of all college facilities and facility related equipment.
- Oversee and manage all capital, maintenance, custodial, and grounds personnel in the areas of new employee selection, work assignments, evaluations and training. Directly supervise any temporary or contracted staff involved in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or other specialized activities necessary for maintenance of the college facilities.
- Oversee and provide direction to custodial services supervisor and operations.
- Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, develop and discipline department employees in compliance with college policies and collective bargaining agreements.
- Coordinate with departments to ensure timely completion of maintenance, moving, and capital projects.
- Coordinate with the Capital Projects Manager to ensure efficient execution of major and minor works projects.
- Coordinate waste management and plant safety.
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance management system.
- Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable codes, rules, standards and regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date campus and building maps, facility inventory and room numbering systems.
- Manage and monitor facilities, grounds, and custodial budgets. Review and authorize expenditures.
- Ensure timely and accurate reports to government regulatory agencies as required.
- Work with college staff to implement and maintain campus emergency response plans, including ongoing employee readiness training; participate in the development of college disaster plans and adequate employee response readiness.
- Develop departmental procedures and policies as required.
- Liaison with other College departments regarding facilities services activities, programs and opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment.
- Five years of work experience in physical plant facilities management, project management, or related field with a background in areas of responsibility which include HVAC systems management, electrical systems, structural systems, preventative maintenance, facility management, grounds and maintenance.
- Two years of supervisory level experience within the five-year work experience period.
- Ability to utilize computer-based systems such as CAD, preventative maintenance and data base development.
- Experience in a collective bargaining environment is preferred.
- An understanding of and commitment to the education role and philosophy of the technical college.
- Exceptional ability to provide strong leadership with ethics and integrity.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team supporting the college's mission, vision, and shared governance processes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tack, discretion and courtesy.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
WORKING CONDITIONS:Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday - Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. The Facilities and Grounds Services Director is part of the emergency team and is required to report to work when the college is closed due to emergencies. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across the campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
